Describe the issue

Have not been able to find Rock on my network for a long time,i need to install ffmeg and cannot if i cant access the rock

Describe your network setup

Router is EE wifi 7 router ,the rock is connected to an extra switch, but have tried connecting directly to the router with the same results,i have looked inside my router settings and its not there

Have you tried rebooting everything? (Router, modem, etc)

I am assuming you are running ROCK on a NUC, correct?
Are there any lights on the ethernet on the NUC? If so, what are they doing?
Is there any indication that the NUC is actually running (fan, is it warm, etc)?

Depending on the answers to above, you might need to hook up a monitor and keyboard to the NUC and see what is showing during boot up. It may be that your NUC is not working?

Thanks yes, it’s all working, nuc is working Roon is working,it’s just I can’t see it in my network any longer, disappeared a while ago,and now I can’t see Rock in my router settings either, and after refreshing server and software I need to re install codecs

On the page in your screen shot, is there an IP address listed under the DHCP section? I would assume an IP would be there, if you can see the webUI. Try using that in your file explorer.
See below.

Accessing Roon OS’s Data Directory

With ROCK running on your network, you can access Roon OS’s /Data directory like any other SMB share.

  1. Windows - In Windows Explorer, type \\ROCK\

  2. MacOS - In Finder, click Go, then Connect To Server. Then type smb://ROCK/ and connect as a Guest

In either case, you can also replace ROCK with the IP address of your Roon OS device.

May need to make sure SMB settings are correct on your PC/MAC.
Then change to the “codecs” directory and put the ffmpeg in there.

It’s not there guys,I was aware of those suggestions and have tried for months before reaching out to you guys, it’s just not happening,as of yesterday I have a new router and hoped I would see it on there but nope :thinking:

I had to go to windows features and enable smb 1.0 cifs client under the smb 1.0 protocol to get the ROCK to show up and be accessible for file sharing to work.

Someone else may have other ideas on how to get this to work but this is what worked for me.
Some may says it is a security risk so you could turn it on the get the file installed and then turn it off once done?

Why it’s not in your router is another question, if the Roon server is working it “should” be on your IP tables in your router… the server and webUI would not work at all if it was not assigned an IP on your network.

Windows has a habit of not seeing non-Windows devices in the Network section of File Explorer. Try typing in \\ROCK\ in the address field to see if you can kick Windows awake…

Example:

You might want to add \\ROCK\Data\ as a network location - Windows seems to keep that in its memory…

It’s not necessary to add SMBv1 to Windows - ROCK knows about SMBv2. The problem lies with Windows, but there are workarounds as I show…

If the Web Administration Interface of your ROCK device is not showing a proper IP address (like the screenshot below), then it is a sign that your m.2 SSD in your NUC is failing. Best to replace it and reinstall ROCK, but you could try reinstalling RoonOS first…

Tried that thanks, and no result, but thanks for your suggestion

Hi @Michael_Turner2,

Thank you for your post.

We can see the relevant RoonServer online in account diagnostics. The machine is still reaching our servers. What is the make/model of router and managed switch currently in your setup?

Were there any network configuration changes (adding switches/routers/firewalls), power outages, or other service events around the time this first occurred?

You’ve mentioned Roon is working - I’d first create a Backup, if you haven’t already, in case there is corruption or drive failure on the SSD. What is the IP address listed in Settings → Setup → Find RoonOS?

Try reinstalling the OS from the web admin, if you didn’t take that step before.

Yep, just tried it without smb1 but with the “\\rock\data” and it works, where “\rock\data” does not work. Although without smb 1 the rock does not show in “network” in windows explorer where is does show if smb1 is enabled. Windows, got love it???
Thanks.

I so wish it would work for me, but sadly it doesn’t

When you type \\ROCK\ into Windows File Explorer, what happens? Is there an error message? Thanks.

Just says ,no items match your search

Did that and that’s why I need to insert ffmpeg again

Well Guys I tried again,I was typing in the wrong place in file explorer, all sorted, Thanks so much for your help, much appreciated

LOL, yeah just noticed you were typing in the search area not the address area… great that it sorted now.
