Yes i have w11 24H2, but i think the problem started when i migrated Roon server from my pc to Nucleus One, i had to unauthorize the pc from roonserver, because of Nucleus one and then the problem started. I have cleaned my profile and reinstalled roon on the pc, firewall is also ok, the closest i come, is when i try to make an network connection to Nucleus One(ip-adress), i get username and password, but it will not accept the right password because of an security issue
That’s because the Nucleus only provides an anonymous log-in with the username and password being „guest“, and since 24H2 this is considered insecure by Windows and it’s not allowed by default.
Therefore, you need to explicitly allow it. The link I posted provides all the information.
Windows by default does not allow you to access an SMB network share with guest/guest, but the Nucleus offers only guest/guest.
Therefore, you need to explicitly allow it in Windows.
There were a hundred other threads about the same issue. Why don’t you try the suggested solution rather than arguing?
(And a USB disk that is attached to a Nucleus is also accessed over the network by SMB. For the problem it therefore doesn’t matter if it’s internal storage or a USB disk attached to the Nucleus)
And double check that you made the changes correctly (it wouldn’t be the first time that a small mistake prevents it from working). Ideally post screenshots.
That’s another option. In this case, make sure that it is formatted with the exFAT file system (not NTFS) and turn off the Nucleus before removing the disk, just to be sure it’s unmounted correctly.
Well, it was Microsoft who changed something that had worked for decades, with rather flimsy arguments and without giving users a simple solution and expecting them to edit the registry or issue PowerShell commands.
Roon Labs have said that they are working on a solution, and it’s true that they are being a bit slow with this, but adding an authenticated user account to Roon OS is probably quite a significant change to the security model. They had more than enough time to update their Nucleus help page for SMB access, though.
Thank you for your patience over the weekend while the Roon team was away and thank you to @Suedkiez for your prompt suggestions.
As recommended above, reverting the Group Policy settings (that automatically change with Microsoft updates) is the most immediate solution here in most cases.
Please let us know if you need additional help after taking this step and we’ll watch for a response. Thanks!
After adjusting the policy in my win.11 pc, and several restarts, it now look like this, see image.
I also finally been able to setup backup, but the only thing i’m wondering , is where my Samsung 2TB ssd-disk is, is it under storage ? I have been formatted this twice.
I also configured backup under the storage map.
Yes. It will appear as a sub-folder within “Storage”
A Nucleus internal SSD will have the folder name “Internal Storage”.
External SSD’s connected to the Nucleus by USB will have a device specific folder name.
