Affected Product

Roon

Roon Issue Category

Description of Issue

I paid $500 for a lifetime subscription to ROON. Now, it won’t even start up, and, there is no support available.

Roon Server Platform

Windows

Roon Server Specifications

16GB ram Intel i5 3.0

Connected Audio Devices

Auralic Aries 2.0

Home Network Details

Same network I’ve been using the last 6 months

Not sure what you mean by “no support available”?
Roon support model is exactly the same as it ever has been, via this forum.
Maybe a little more information as to your problem would help others to assist you.

And please keep to just the single thread for your support issue, opening multiple threads will not help, rather it will dilute the responses

So many open questions. Normally a lifetime subscription is just a change to your account on the license server, it doesn’t change the software at all.

Did you reinstall Roon or did you get a software update?

Are there any error messages?

Did you reboot the computer or try any other things?

No error messages. I’ve tried rebooting a few times. No recent updates. Was working fine a few days ago.
I get the typical start up screen, but, it never opens

@kyle_millsap, can you confirm you have Roon Server running on your Windows computer? RoonServer.exe is the engine behind Roon, but Roon.exe is now only the graphical front-end. Roon Server needs to run in the background on the server computer for any Roon Remote to connect to it.

If Roon Server is running, can you confirm that you have Windows Firewall exceptions for roon.exe, raatserver.exe, and roonappliance.exe?

I’ll look when I’m home. I’ve been using the same system for about 5 years. It stopped working out of the blue. I have not changed anything.

Read this. This was a major change a couple updates ago.

Thanks for the information. I look forward to getting ROON up and running again

It appears I am still using ROON 1.1. What is the process for replacing with 2.0?

Roon 1.1 has been obsolete for 8 years. Your current Roon database is not usable with Roon 2.0. You’ll need to stay where you are or maybe just start over. That’s what I would do. If it was me, I would delete Roon and start with a fresh install by downloading from Roon Labs website.

On the other hand, you could try doing a Roon update and see what happens. Probably nothing to lose. Go to Roon - Settings - About and update there.

I’ve been using ROON daily for the since I installed it. Interesting that it never updated. Never had any issues though.
Sorry to ask a dumb question, but, is there any special instruction for deleting and re installing?

What device are you running Roon on? The minimum requirements have been updated in recent years.

I’m running a MUSIC VAULT, windows 16GB ram intel i5 3.0, 3TB HD.

@kyle_millsap, before moving too far down the path of changing your Roon system, can you confirm what Roon Build Number you are running currently?

File version 1.0.0.0

You need to go into Roon’ Settings → About and look at the Build number, as shown in my screenshot below:

I am running an Early Access version of Roon, Build 1358.

Can you confirm what you are running?

After I posted that I remembered you cannot open Roon. Do you have a backup of Roon made from within Roon recently?

But @kyle_millsap is running Roon on Windows, so the version number should be shown in Windows Settings > Apps. Scroll down to Roon, click it, and some number a.b.c.d should appear, if I recall correctly
