I have spent ALL DAY! updating the SGC ‘ST’ software from 2.5 to 2.8 because roon said it needed an upgrade! So I did manage this in the end.
BUT!
Roon is not finding it as a server, instead it has selected my laptop as the server, and i don’t know how to change this from the laptop to the sonic transporter?
Can anyone offer some help please?

Describe the issue
I installed Roon on my laptop and somehow got roon server as well(?) and in the setup unwittingly chose the laptop as the server because Roon did not find/see/discover my SGC 'ST'/'S/O' with version 2.8 software installed. So i need to know how to make/force Roon to use the SGC 'ST' as the server please?
Describe your network setup
router is a linksys wrt 1900ACS, Sonic transporter base model 2016 (server/no storage), Synology 218+ (as music/album storage), HP Pavilion G6 2382sa Notebook Product - DOY14EA Serial: 5CD2515FZN (as controller)
Roon - Settings - General - Disconnect from the laptop, then connect to your other server.
When you install Roon on a computer, Roon installs both the Roon server and Roon client software.
i need the server to be the sgc st though, not the laptop. the laptop is the controller.
In Roon > Settings > General, click Disconnect
my other server is not listed, roon does not even discover it since i updated it to 2.8?
i cannot get to that page, all i get is the initial setup page now that i have reinstalled ROON and refuse to select my laptop as the server. I can’t get any further without selecting my laptop a server i.e. been held to ransom and not allowing any other choice in the matter? I will not select laptop as server, there must be another way?
I’m utterly confused now about what your status is
Select the laptop, then switch to the SGC. If you can’t see the SCG, you have a different problem.
Click on Use the PC. Then follow the instructions I posted above to switch to the SGC. If you don’t see the SCG, you have a different problem. Either it’s not working or on a different network, etc. Make sure your firewall settings are not blocking it. Sometimes they can get changed when you do some sort of update on the device.
the sgc st is working fine as i just updated the software to ver. 2.8, but i don’t see it as an option, I have allowed the ipaddress through windows firewall and router (dmz), It’s on the same network as i checked my router’s network map.
Its strange because roon did see it the very first time as SGC ST ver.2.5, but said I must first update to 2.8, which I did successfully; but now roon doesn’t see it at all?
Maybe you need to ask SGC.
I sent a private message to @agillis via this forum early this morning but no reply so far. Do they have a forum as i can’t find an email address or direct contact anywhere, only a FAQ page without any contact details being given? Indeed I can only see SGC issues on here, unless there is a sonore link because they seem quite ‘closely connected in business’?
cheers!
does anyone know how you could contact SGC directly for help and support? Even though it is ROON that can’t see the SGC! Not the other way around.
It is a Sunday!
I don’t know but I didn’t buy an SGC device, you did. Maybe they gave you some materials about their support?
Or the Roon Server on the SGC isn’t properly running.
yes it is sunday i may get a reply during the week though? they gave no details as i bought it second hand. i have now found a new forum that is a recent development which they didn’t have before! I joined but am not allowed to post! only read! Yes maybe the SGC server isn’t running properly, but i’ll have to wait and see if i get any contact from them before i ask for expert remote connection help.
cheers!
I suppose that Andrew will answer, he usually does as far as I know
Got it
it had been working ok as a server before though, without ROON. maybe it has developed a fault by coincidence?
