Describe the issue

I cannot view my Roon Nuc Rock in Windows explorer and can no longer find the attached drive

Describe your network setup

The Roon Nuc Rock is attached by ethernet cable to my TP link router. The Nuc has an SSD with my music library. I can no longer find the Nuc or SSD in file explorer, or when i try to rip a cd to it. I was able to do so recently and had no trouble. Suddenly it is not visible. It does not show under this PC or in network locations. I am logged into the Roon Nuc web interface and it shows no problems. It does show not secure in chrome, in the address bar, but I do not think that is a change. I have a core i7 system with 64gb ram running windows 11. The Nuc has 32gb RAM and is a Nuc 13 Pro.

I have tried rebooting the Nuc and my PC.

Try and see if this Microsoft guide helps you:

Hey @Jim_Fuerstenberg,

Thanks for writing in! @BlackJack has posted a helpful think that should aid you in re-establishing a connection.

Let us know if it helps!

I just tried that and rebooted. I already had the first setting as recommended, but per the recommendation changed the second setting. No change, I still cant see the Nuc in file explorer. BTW, I also have a QNAP NAS and it never stopped being visible on the network…just the Nuc Rock is invisible.

I think that Roon Labs never added the needed service to make Roon OS show-up in network environment of modern Windows machines. It is also not need to gain access to the share and the instructions in the linked Microsoft guide will only making it work to connect to the share (and not making it visible in network environment of Explorer). How to access the share is described in:

ok…So, I figured…let’s trying ripping a CD, as I put in the ROCK address into Fairstars CD Ripper… worked perfectly… so I put in \Rock into file explorer and it popped right up and now it shows up fine. Very odd…apparently it is not there unless you know it’s there and address it properly.

You can map it to a drive letter, then Windows File Explorer always lists it as a drive. See the „How do I map a network drive?“ section here:

Thanks! Good idea, I just mapped it to an open drive letter.

Hi @Jim_Fuerstenberg,
Are you able to view the drive in Windows Explorer now?
