Updating my NUC

I installed ROCK (?) to a NUC many years ago and all has been well, but I am conscious that I am risking failure of the hard ware now, I would like to purchase the best currently supported NUC and transfer the original to the new.

I have in years gone by, seen lists of models that Roon supports, do these list still exist for currently available compatible NUCs please?

Is there an upgrade document?

Thanks in advance - Terry

NUC13 is the latest officially supported one, but NUC14 and 15 work too, though HDMI might not, and you will have to change something in the BIOS for installation. (See ROCK will not run on Asus NUC 15 Pro)

I’m looking to upgrade my NUC8. My music is on a 4tb interval drive and 4tb USB drive attached to the NUC. I want to merge the storage onto an internal 8tb drive for the new NUC.

If I install the populated 8tb in the new NUC, will my edits, etc. be restored if I follow the instructions? Is the key to remove the storage folders prior to the last backup on the old NUC?

Many thanks.

This is much like migrating to ROCK and moving files to internal storage. See here:

For the merging, I believe the pertinent info is in the following link - don’t let it see two copies of the files at the same time, because then it will think that the copy represents new files and will start duplicating them.

Whether you remove the old storage entries before making (and restoring) the backup probably depends on whether it’s necessary to prevent it from seeing the two copies at the same time. If you never attach the USB drive to the new NUC, then this is satisfied and I suppose you can do it after restoring. I don’t think it matters when exactly you remove them, as long as Roon doesn’t see two copies of the files.

You can move the merged internal disk over (or merge it after installing it in the new NUC). The internal disk location cannot be disabled, anyway, and it is recognized as “internal disk” on both machines, so there is no danger of Roon getting confused.

If you are unsure about anything, you may always open a ticket by → Support → Get Help and have support staff clarify it for you.

I went through the same process upgrading my 7th gen NUC. Went for a gen 13 Pro i5. Followed the process @Suedkiez has already posted and it all went fine. All bottle neck issues now resolved and the new machine can handle anything up to DSD512 without breaking a sweat. Mine has 16GB of RAM and my music is on a USB attached external SSD.
