I have 3 profiles, I have separate collections using tags for each and 3 separate people choosing, if you’ll said its not acceptable to use 3 profiles, it didn’t say so before, but yes once we all saw things the same and we all choose to vote only for logos, sometimes together.

You did something that shouldn’t be done (multiple votes per account), and we will be removing those extra votes. However, it was not your fault we let you do it. It never said you shouldn’t, so no big deal. We never contacted you about it. It was our bug, and we are fixing it and removing the offending votes.

we weren’t trying to cheat nor force anyone to have logos.

We did state on each upload page to not upload logos for individuals. Please stop uploading logos for individuals. It has said this message on each upload page since the first beta release.

I’ve tweaked and resubmitted the avatars for these problematic goths to better fit Roon’s UI. I’d be willing to upload better images if I could get appropriate clearances. I have a great one on my Plex server but I have no idea of its provenance so currently that is a no-go.

Please note that this is being done for GBP – Good Boy Points rather than Great British Pounds.

We are fixing this ASAP. Votes should be shared amongst profiles, per user. Extraneous votes will be removed.

Please also note that at the moment moderators can self-moderate using the same trick of switching profile.

No problem, I won’t do it anymore. What I was thinking or the way I saw it was bands like Covenant is a band and they have every individual person also listed in roon, so not those, those should’nt get logos but for instance danzig is just one persons name but it’s a band, or like any of the rappers they are not doing it all on their own, their name is their brand/band. No matter I understand what you mean now.

agreed on those, but Bhad Bhabie, Big Mojo, Bishop Briggs, Biz Markie, Bobby Previte, Cathy Guetta, P.Diddy, Delilah Montagu, etc…?

The idea for a logo is to provide an alternative when the artist can’t fit in a circle (8 people in a band for example), or when the logo is better than the photographs (London Symphony Orchesta).

Indeed similar has happened to me also (Robert Johnson issue) , I cannot understand what’s happening and every time it happens it makes me less likely to use VAD.

There are two issues I want to point out. First, Mongo Santamaría’s avatar looks like the one below, [image] although it’s fine in VAD, [image] Secondly, Robert Johnson’s avatar has a logo, but there is no such logo among the avatars in VAD. [image] [image]

This does not look good. Can you make a separate avatar section in Valance just for logos and then have a setting in Roon which the user can decide to turn logos as avatars on or off?. @danny

It is temporary. Your cache will get flushed and it’ll be fixed shortly.

No. It’s better for the logos to just be used where they make sense, which we believe will happen.

I hope you’re right because if the majority of artists become logos your app will just look like a messy open source app and not the clean, modern and the very nicely designed product you have now. For example look at the band Rush, someone has uploaded 10-20 band logos as avatars and as of now it’s the star man logo.

Danny, I’ve contributed over a thousand photos to AD, but I don’t see the value in voting. IMHO, there’s not one winning solution that will meet the asthetics of everyone. It would be nice to choose among many artist photos on AD. I would also like to be able to contribute photos and as long as they aren’t rejected for cause, be able to download them.

My priorities are the avatar and wide banners (for Chromecast), so I won’t reject a photo if iit doesnt fit perfect on an iPhone.

@danny I will clarify my own experience: all the artists where I clicked on ‘improve this photo’ where accidently all single artists. So with every click Art Director told me to NOT upload logos (side note: there were many electronic artist which do have logos as single artist and not as a band - where also the logo might be much more representing than the actual picture) This gave me the impression that logos were not recommended. The reject option: ‘This is not a artist picture’ also drive…

The problem with this is really simple De gustibus non est disputandum each has his own taste, one prefers logos, the other doesnt i really think Roon needs to reconsider a third metatype for logos so each user can toggle between artist pics or logos this would be so awesome as user experience, and this will stop the logo - picture war in the voting…

and i really think we need a small guideline doc with visual examples

Maybe it’s a good idea to make a guideline doc… I struggle with some things: example when cropping the text says don’t do anything aesthetically at this point, this will be done by rating. Some landscape pics with more people can’t fit in the circle, however when this is thee only image i would prefer a small border above no picture at all… However it’s not possible to know if other images for this artist exist when you are cropping. What should you do: leave the border and let the rejection…

Well, Kevin, i personally spent plenty dollar on a music playback software that didn’t require meticulous meta data grooming. And it was working fine, to say 95% of my expectations.
Now it’s looking like a dogs breakfast and i will have to fix it?

Then you should just skip contributing. If your “bad” crops are flagged too often, the system will deny you access anyway.

I had that yesterday, but don’t remember the artist (might have been Green Day). The group was on a solid colour background with lots of spare space around them. I tried a few times then gave up trying to get a decent avatar.

Am I missing something, if I upload a photo VD only allows me to use that one image for banner, avatar and phone, which I am struggling to find images that do all three.

What is strange, that sometimes an avatar photo can be seen in the artist overview, but when I click on the artist no banner photo appears, even when I click on improve and there are perfectly fine banner images to be seen in valence.

Edit 1: Ok, if the banner photo do not appear, I have to go back to artist overview and click again on the artist and than the banner photo appears.

Edit 2: Sometimes even this does not help. ???

you are getting a valid response. The top of the image is outside the bounds by a bit. It just happens to color match perfectly, so you are ok!
