What DAC do you use with Roon? Please list make and model (and price if you feel like adding it) [2016 - 2021-03]

They are priced for the market, huge profit.

Basically take a RPI put it in the same box as the DAC and connect it via short I2S

Sorry, its posts like my last one that gets me kicked out of forums. I should keep my mouth shut.

However, after running me off they tend to use my suggestion. JRiver on Mac anyone?

Thanks Mikael. I know that reliability is a risk with Chinese made items, but I figured at the price its a risk worth taking…

Thanks for the info

At some point Oppo was saying Roon Ready was coming to the Sonica DAC. Have they given up?

Even if they didn’t give up, I would: the ethernet interface tops out at 192/24 PCM and DSD64. If you want the full capabilities of the DAC, you have to use the USB interface.

Holo Audio Spring (Level II, Jensen caps)

Haven’t switched it from NOS. Listening to a lot of Redbook/Tidal upsampled to DSD 512 in HQP.

Audiolab 8000 Dac (yes it’s old, bought it back in 1994!).

Hi
I am using a Chord DAVE dac

Trying a Audioquest Dragonfly Black at moment and actually preferring it over my Chord Mojo.

Amazing little dac for the money and extremeley versatile for both mobile and static use.

Just installed a QUAD Artera Link. It uses an ESS ES9018 32bit DAC. I have it connected via USB to a Roon Ready Sonore microRendu.

That is the chipset that I have in my Oppo DAC. I love the fidelity with this. I am going to wait and see how MQA plays out for while before I make a switch because I really like this chipset.

If you were talking about the new Oppo Sonica DAC, it has the new 1038 DAC

Cat 6 Ethernet, Ubiquiti EdgetRouter PoE-5, Netgear ProSAFE switch connecting NAS, NUC, and microRendus. Short (6 in) USB cables (Moon Audio Blue Dragon) from nicroRendus to DACs. Balanced XLR cables from Yggy to H360, short RCAs from Bimby to Jot. Except for a couple of new hinted-at gadgets from Schiit (Bimby upgrade, advanced USB noise reduction), this is pretty much where I plan to stay for now. No Tidal, I only play stored FLAC either from CD rips or from various commercial download sites (HDtracks, HighResAudio, Bandcamp, …); some classics, but mostly jazz, world, and classical recorded in the last 20 years. Most recent purchases: An Evening with Ron Carter and Richard Galliano; Sooner and Later by Julia Hülsmann Trio; Bach - Bartók - Boulez by Michael Barenboim; Potsdamer Platz by Jan Lundgren; Planktonic Finales by Stephan Crump et al; Nuit Blanche by Tarkovsky Quartet.

late 2012 i7 16GB RAM Mac Mini USB>new Meridian Explorer 2 and when I play TIDAL MASTERS either in A playlist I made or directly from TIDAL I get the blue light alone or with one or two white lights ie MQA! My pathway shows source: TIDAL FLAC 48/24 2 ch>This Mac RAAT>Output: CoreAudio Exclusive Mode. I couldn’t be happier.
