What DAC do you use with Roon? Please list make and model (and price if you feel like adding it) [2016 - 2021-03]

Thanks I will have a look at this…

Edit:
I have looked at the website and when I check Matrix Audio by brand

The page is empty like they don’t sell it anymore.

Hello,
I use:

both USB outputs on the Prime Mini (Roon Rock)

  • In the McIntosh C2700 the DA2 module> USB.

  • Parallel a Manunta HiFace USB> COAX> McIntosh C2700 DA2 to multiroom in a group with two Naim Mu-So Cube 2 Gen. to realize.

  • On the McIntosh MHA150 headphone amplifier> USB> AuralicMini.

@ I know both the DA1 module and the DA2 module in my chain from a McIntosh MA7200. I swapped the module myself. In my experience, investing in a DA2 module significantly enhances the sound quality and is definitely recommended.

Best regards

Linn Majik DS/2. Bought as demo device for 1.400 €, two yrs ago. Truly a no-brainer at that time.

Just today moved to an Allo Katana playing into a Linn AV5103, a Linn 5100 amp and active Linn Keilidh speakers. Was using a Xonar Essence STXII on a pc before, which was great and will stay as a general purpose DAC and headphone amp, but the Katana is ace. Got the Katana on eBay, with isolator board, for just over £180 which was superb VFM and well worth the geeky setup process.

I’ve tried a few dacs in the last 6 months just to put the hyped dacs and the fan-boy opinions to rest (and also got tired of reading reviews so I figured I’d find out for myself) Note that some dacs I had at same time for a/b/c comparison):

Chord Qutest
Chort Hugo 2
Esoteric D3 player (used as on-board dac)
PS Directstream
Schiit Yggdrasil
Bel Canto eOne 3.7
APL DSD-AR
BMC DAC1
dCS Debussy

The dCS, Esoteric and Bel Canto came out on top. Although I loved the Qutest for it’s sheer value.
Overall I’ve found the main difference that a Dacs change are how solid/precise imaging is and soundstage depth, width and height, not so much sonic characteristic, balance nor tonality.

Just moved to an iFi micro iDSD from my Peachtree Grand Integrated internal 24/192 dac in order to get native DSD and MQA support. Well worth the effort!

MacMini i7 (late 2012) w. 16GB RAM and 1TB SSD to an SMSL SU-8 second generation DAC. Analog out to preamp. Excellent sound w/o spending crazy money.

Hi @Raul_Macias,
I’m not sure if your are looking for support or not on this, but if so can your create a new topic in the in #support section of the forum and provide the details as requested. Then one of the Roon’s support team will follow it up for you.

I have a NUC feeding a bunch of endpoints, some with external and others with integrated DACs.

Just picked up one of these, the latest V2 model, to see/hear what the fuss is about.

HQPlayer doing DSP.

It’s always a good sign when you want to keep turning the volume up (instead of down)… can be dangerous on the ears though !

Drives my (easy to drive) Focal Utopia headphones with authority !

Actually purchased this for my old man, but thought I’d have a long play before I visit him in a couple weeks hehe

Yes its a nice DAC, lots of features with a clear, detailed and transparent sound.

Love the modius in the context. I used to feel like it was great, now it feels like I’m decidedly mid-fi

hi i am using an old cyrus dacmaster with his psxr, connected via aes/ebu to an auralic aries g1.
a real bargain but highly musical.
i use it also via optical to a meridian 500 transport and it’s really a good match too.

Anyone have any experience with this?

For the price, I might lash one into my chain, while I’m saving my pennies for a Terminator+.
