I used to be able to expand SONICTRANSPORT in File Explorer and drop downloaded music in subfolder music > flac folder to be uploaded to My Library in Roon. Now I get the error box you can see. Also see screenshot after I press Diagnose.
And I don’t know which folder, called Music Folder in Roon Storage is being monitored(see screenshot). I’d drop new music files there, but I don’t know where it is in File Explorer.
Would someone please help me figure this out? It’s been this way since I got the SonicTransporter back a few days ago after a software update.
Any help gratefully appreciated. This is frustrating…
Dave
Does it show the path when you click the three dots in settings/storage in Roon?
Also the screen shot shows you only imported 5 tracks to the folder showing in settings Storage? Does that look correct?
Is the Roon server on a windows machine?
This might help:
Or this if it is a firewall issue:
Thanks bearFNF, Here’s what is seen in 3-dots menu > edit.
Here’s what houses Roon OS:
Small Green Computer
I turned off domain and private network firewalls, rebooted the server. I could then expand SONICTRANSPORT again. I tried to drag and drop some .wav files into music folder under it, but kept getting exception errors and they weren’t copied.
I went back and clicked on SONICTRANSPORT and got the screen you see at the top. Thanks anyway. Chasing my tail here.
Hey @David_Bollinger,
Could you share a screenshot of that error?
It may be worth getting in touch with SGC directly since this issue above is between the machine and your network.
A few additional things to consider, from your account page I see you’re running a few instances of Roon Server, with one being on your windows. I’d stop any other instances of Roon Server other than your Sonictransporter.
I’d next confirm that your devices are all running on the same network subnet - you may have a few actively running and could be causing some hiccups in connection.
Whats your network setup look like? Can you simplify your connection and get a direct ethernet connection from the Sonictransporter to your primary router?
Let me know if either of the above help!
benjamin,
Thank you for responding. I was able to download w/o exception errors, so I can’t show you. It may be the problem was .wav files, which I deleted, then succeeded with FLAC files. All show up in My Library now.
SGC are really not much help. I was referred to this FAQ, but I don’t understand it.SGC FAQ
Okay, how do I stop other instances not on Sonictransporter. I don’t know how to check if all devices are on same subnet. Sorry, I’m a toddler at this.
Yes, there is a direct ethernet cable from router to ethernet switch, then on to the Sonictransporter and MicroRendu player.
Hi @David_Bollinger,
Since RoonServer is running in the background on both the SGC and the Windows machine you seem to intend to use as a Roon endpoint and remote, let’s take the following steps on the Windows machine:
- Make a Backup of your current RoonServer Database
- Exit out of RoonServer
- Navigate to your RoonServer’s Database Location
- Find the folder that says “RoonServer”
- Rename the “RoonServer” folder to “RoonServer_old”
- Reinstall the RoonServer App from our Downloads Page to generate a new RoonServer folder
- On the Roon Remotes, press “Use another Roon Server” and connect to the SGC
This last step is crucial, as it will prevent you from re-installing RoonServer on the Windows machine, and instead install only the GUI/bridge component (simply Roon).
This should simplify conditions in the Roon environment and prevent possible connectivity or authentication issues.
Just to confirm - you were able to import music into the SGC-hosted RoonServer database?
No problem, the best place to start is here:
Here are images of ipconfig/all:
Connor,
I am working my way through you instructions above. Much appreciated!
Okay, Roon Server exited. I had a window open. On to step 4 of 5.
Hi @David_Bollinger ,
Yes, to stop RoonServer, you would need to exit it as per @Jim_F 's screenshot. It looks like you have a few VPNs installed on your Windows machine, when you are trying to access the SonicTransporter, do you have your VPN turned on?
Have you tried to see if you can put in the IP address of your SonicTransporter into a Windows Explorer address bar and access it that way? According to diagnostics, the current IP of the SonicTransporter should be: 192.168.1.162
. The music folder that Roon is seeing is on the internal SonicTransporter drive.
Aha! Thanks, Jim.
Crud. That didn’t work; still getting ‘open in another program’ error box.
noris,
No, I have to turn off Nord to use SonicOrbiter to access the server.
Hey @David_Bollinger,
Have you clicked ‘connect’? This will allow you to control and navigate around Roon using the ST as your server.
To confirm, this is in response to attempting to access the SonicTransporter? Were you able to input the IP specifically?
If that doesn’t work, it may be worth reaching out to SGC directly would be a good next step. You can click the ‘contact’ option via the website here:
I can access the ST by turning off Nord and opening Sonicorbiter. The owner at SGC told me to contact you. His written FAQ are, to me, severely lacking.
conor,
As you see on screenshot, there is no ‘Use another Roon Server’ button. Do I click the ‘Connect’ button?
That is because Conner is referencing a page in the Roon Remote software not the SonicOrbiter software.
From my phone, I have wifi turned off so the server can’t be seen and I get this…
Yes, Rugby, I know that. Thanks.
I’m at the screen you see above the Sonicorbiter shot. In conor’s last point, he says to click ‘Use another Roon Server’ but as you see, I only have ‘Connect’ to my ST or ‘Use this PC.’
So, which button do I click?
