Actually both, 44.1 source → HQ Player including filter + noise shaper → 44.1 output but also for the source being other sample rates, like 192. Same story 192 source → HQ Player including filter + noise shaper → 192 output. Having this happening dynamiccaly by HQ Player.

This just doesn’t make any technical sense…

Holo Audio for example has an excellent NOS implementation and stand-alone for me it sounds nice with matching sampling to source(NOS).

Running it at 44.1k is just horrible technical performance. You get best results by running it at DSD256 or DSD512… (which is what I do with mine, I never use mine in PCM mode) But even 705.6k+ PCM rates is massively better than lower PCM rates. In PCM mode you also need the higher rates combined with noise-shaper to correct the inherent R2R ladder non-linearity distortions.

Advantage of Holo NOS implementation is that it is a bit-perfect DAC and thus can unleash HQPlayer’s upsampling potential much better. So you don’t need to worry about how to bypass it’s DSP, since it doesn’t have one.
