WiiM Sound with Roon

Is anyone using the new Wiim Sound with Roon ? How does it sound ? Does the little display show album artwork ?

I’m looking for a wireless speaker that I can use with Roon but can also send podcasts to and stream from BBC Sounds. I also note the announcement of WiiM Sound Lite which is the same speaker without the display and remote. I guess the remote is somewhat redundant when using with Roon.

I reviewed the Sound about six weeks ago at the UK distributor and immediately ordered one. Which arrived last week, it’s blooming lovely. The screen is small but high resolution, so a nice touch. Not something you’ll read across a room but I think I’d prefer one rather than not (and yes it doers artwork, in various different ways). Although the Sound Lite looks very attractive at that price (and in theory might soud marginally better apparently).

I’ve also reviewed lots of other similar speakers over the years. Regardless of price the Sound is amongst the best. The RoomFit automatic EQ works particularly well and is far mor sophistiicated than anything available on similar devices. Bottom line - I’m getting emotional involvement with the Sound that I haven’t experienced before with any wireles or Bluetooth speaker.

I should add that having moved house recently I haven’t got my Roon system up and running yet so haven’t tried that aspect of the Sound. I’m not expecting any problems though.

Feel free to ask if you have any questions

Cheers, Phil

Good info thanks. WiiM do seem to get things right.

I took the plunge on the WiiM Sound and it certainly meets the requirements I had. Pretty easy to setup both the speaker and with Roon. A WiiM setting flags the device as ‘Roon Ready’.

As well being easy to use via Roon, I can cast from BBC Sounds and other apps.

While the display is small, it has various options for how album artwork is shown.

The sound seems surprisingly good for a speaker of this size. While I’ve not used for long yet and only at fairly low volumes it seems comparable to the Naim Mu-So Qb 1st Gen which I use in another room.

Down the line I may add a second WiiM Sound (which I guess could be the lite version) and setup as a stereo pair.

I’m wondering about the WAF rating between the sound and sound mini for the living room.
(Wife acceptance factor)

High on both counts I’d wager

In photos I wasn’t sure about the screen, it looked slightly odd. In the flesh it works well though, ignoring the price difference I think I’d prefer a screen.

Just installed a WiiM Sound as bathroom speaker. And I’m seriously impressed by the sound after running the room correction. Just make sure you enable Roon Ready under voice and streaming options before using it (otherwise volume control can be out of sync). And yes, it shows record artwork or radio station logo when playing and a configurable clock when not.

I love that little circular display. Some album covers look so great on it.

Yes, it’s great. Though I wish it showed track names when streaming live radio from BBC Sounds.

Mine (yes, I have two now) shows radio track names depending on the chosen display. If the preview shows text, it shows the song played in the radio.

OK thanks, I will have to try changing the display settings.

I’ve checked and the track info is displayed when I play an album via Roon but not when I play 6 Music radio (either from Roon or via the BBC Sounds app).

What streaming URL do you use in Roon?

The 320kbps one tagged with Metadata service. I see the track details in Roon itself. So either Roon does not send to WiiM Sound or WiiM Sound receives the info but does not display. The WiiM Sound is connected as a Roon Ready device.

Can’t get BBC6 to play, but for BBC1 no titles are shown, as you say.

I have a Wiim Sound and Wiim Sound Lite. I can create a stereo pair using the Wiim App but Roon doesn’t recognize the pair. It sees the 2 individual speakers as separate endpoints but I can’t use Roon with the Wiims as a stereo pair. Any suggestions?

Perhaps @Phil_Wright knows?

Any help with Roon recognizing the Wiim Stereo Pair would be greatly appreciated!

We use four WiiM Sound as mono speakers, but we read that any app other than the WiiM App causes the stereo pair to separate. I hope that is helpful.

With a Pro Plus you can enable Squeezelite and then within Roon you enable Squeezebox support and the Pro Plus.

I’m wondering if a stereo pair of the Sound speakers would show as a pair that way.
