Issue with Airport Express not streaming via Roon (ref#JKK493)

I would like to reopen my unresolved case. I have been out of town a lot and have not been able to follow up. However, the issue still exists.

Now that have some time I have performed testing as asked in this thread and got the same results: Airport Express no longer streaming.

Keep in mind this started after Roon made improvements for Airplay2.

Since you’ve simplified your network what is the current configuration?

I am not sure what your previous impression was of my netwotk. It is a flat network. Therefore no router except for the connection to the internet.

I was asked to connect the AP Express directly to the server. I did with the same result.

I lao reduced the single switch hop (L2 only) to a single switch. I did that with the same result.

The Airport Express worked until an update of Roon. That version claimed to further expand the capabilities of Airplay 2.

Has Roon tested the Airport express lately?

Which version of Airport Express and firmware version are you using? Is there any change in behavior if you try to enable Compatability Mode under Device Setup for the affected zone?

Both AirPort Expresses are runnng 7.8.1. Trying compatibility mode did not help.

@Stephen_Woesner are you using the first generation or second generation of the AE? If the second generation, can you add it to Apple Home?

This is Gen 2 AE. Two them. They worked with Roon until the Roon update last spring.

They stream fine outside of Roon, like with Qobus and Apple Music. But no longer with Roon.

Has Roon tested the AE Gen 2 on Macos lately?

I’m not sure what Apple Home will prove but I will jump through that hoop.

Roon Support: Can you please jump through a hoop for me. Test it yourself?

I have both Gen1 and Gen2, and Gen2 would not play from Roon until I added it to the Apple Home app. Some AirPlay 2 devices seem to work with Roon only after being added to the Home app.

Robert_F, Thank you for getting me to jump through that hoop. Adding to Home App did the trick. I’m not sure why.

A summer lost without Roon…

It seems that Roon does not do any testing on this device. If they did they would fix the reporting of the wrong IP address of the AE.
