Audio devices disappear on Roon Server and then re-appear [Roon Investigating]

I have been having these same issues for at least a week now. I am ubiquiti as well. Pleae revert so all of us can use Roon again.

Today, Roon keeps dropping connection with my DAC. Here is a snippet of the log where it happened at least once:

Think the problem may be related to Malware Bytes, though I have created exceptions for Roon.exe, Roonserver, and RAATServe, and RoonAppliance. Tweaking and will report.

I turned off Malware Bytes and my devices did not show up again.

I have never had malware bytes on my system which is suffering from disappearing devices….

Describe the issue

Ever since I updated to Roon Version 2.54 a week ago, any Chromecast streaming devices vanish from the list of Audio devices after a couple of hours.
I have an Android TV which I don't use for Roon, and a Nest Audio that I use for Roon.
After restarting roonserver, the devices are back, but always vanish some time later.

My Roonserver runs on Ubuntu 24.04.3 LTS, and the device is a Google Nest Audio speaker.

Describe your network setup

roon server is on wired network, which is bridged with the Wifi network of the Nest Audio (same subnet). There is a hifiberry on the same subnet, which never causes any trouble.

Is there any updates here - any solution?

Hello,

Since the problem appeared with the latest update, can you please provide to all an earlier version of Roon that works until the issue is resolved.

The music keeps stopping. As I write this, it’s happening every two minutes, it’s extremely frustrating, annoying, and makes Roon unusable.

I think it’s really in Roon’s commercial interest because there are probably many users who are having the same disastrous experience (even if they may not have the idea or the time to alert support).

Then, if you don’t provide an older version of Roon for download, people may simply be discouraged from using Roon (including myself, perhaps soon…)

Respectfully

Malware Bytes apparently wasn’t the problem. Was hoping for a response from Roon support here. Will wait a beat, then open a new topic or support ticket.

I feel your pain. I was looking forward to some listening over the long holiday weekend here, and Roon was completely unusable the entire time, and it remains unusable. It’s been weeks now for me at this point.

It’s really bad. Renders the program unusable. Does anyone at Roon have a timeline for a fix? Can we install an earlier version that doesn’t have this problem?

Yes please, a +1 here from me. That would be very helpful.
The last update has rendered Roon unusable for me.
A simple roll-back would at least keep me going until a fix is available.

Official forum postings with Roon Software Release Notes have lists of historical releases complete with links to the downloads BUT those links are always the same… they always just point to the latest version so they no longer download the version that they claim they do.

If you cannot give us a rollback in Roon itself then PLEASE give us a way to access the last few versions. I would still be happy to collect and send logs for a day or two to help fix issues before rolling back.
(If an expensive piece of hardware occasionally rendered itself unusable like this then people would avoid it like the plague.)
From now on I think I need to manually download and keep every release. Perhaps I can automate that.

Hi All - i agree that rolling back would be amazing. All we want is a running system.. which i had prior to 1554.

Just to throw something else in here… ive found the following which i also sent on my seperate thread - but ive added it here too as @vadim has said any future stuff will be via this thread…

@vadim - i have an interesting update. Last night i removed my ropieee raspberry pi endpoints from the network… and it hasnt errored since.. which is interesting seeing as it had only lasted a couple of hours previously.

Here is the link to my message to @spockfish last night asking him if he is aware of anything.

It would seem there is some conflict in my system with the roon server and the ropieee endpoints…

In case it is relevant…

In the RoPieee thread you mentioned the Pi display as perhaps involved here.

I don’t know for sure that my issues (playback randomly stopping and endpoints disappearing momentarily) have the same cause as yours BUT…

…I do have a Pi Display on one of my RoPieee endpoints.
So I just tried deleting ALL my Roon extensions AND shutting down the one endpoint that has a display. Two other RoPieee here do not have a display, and I have no other Roon displays anywhere.

After doing that I find that the random pausing and endpoints disappearing problem is still happening.

So at least in my case it does not appear to be related to the display.

Fingers still crossed that Roon make some progress with this issue soon.

I think mine is a different issue as i didnt have your symptoms.. but maybe they both have the same root cause…

Is someone at Roon able to give us a short, brief, daily update on this issue? About what is being done? Just so us customers know something is indeed happening? And maybe an ETA?

A response on the rollback question would be helpful too
