I recently upgraded to Mac OS 15.1.1. Roon was working fine until the 11/25/2024 update. Now I can't find any of the audio devices on my network. It only shows me my Mac Mini, my Mac Studio Monitor and MS Teams. None of my Roon ready devices appear let alone Sonos. I suspect this is something to do with your software update.
Describe your network setup
I have an Eero mesh network with 1G fiber from AT&T. Mac OS 15.1.1. Devialet and Cambridge Network Streamer both are on this network. I can bybass Roon and stream Tidal direct to both devices and it works just fine. No audio zones appear when I select the audio tab on the Roon desktop app. Roon server is version 2.0 build 1483
I also has similar issue after some update of Roon app. sw. But I do not know what kind of update it was. Currently I also only can see Mac mini and some other device such as TV but my Roon ready device has disappeared. My Roon server is also version 2.0 (build 1484)
Thanks Warner! Its good to know I’m not the only one. I recently had an issue with Roon working with my Sonos devices probably due to the Mac OS update (Sequoia 15.1.1). Roon sent out an update in a couple of days that fixed the Sonos issue. I hope that they will “fix” their update soon and make Roon usable again!
Thanks for the reply. Roon was already allowed in my settings but when I toggled it on/off per you recommendation the problem persisted. I still cannot see any of my devices.
Is there a RoonServer in the same place on your server device? If yes, give it the save treatment. I have also read some cases where people had to do the same thing more than once.
It helped nearly always, but otherwise I’m afraid you need to wait for official support to investigate.
I would try to. In case macOS on the server allows Roon to communicate, but macOS on the client does not allow Roon to communicate with the server, I suppose it would still not work.
But this word only apply to endpoints that Roon macOS. Dedicated hardware streamers or similar won’t be affected by this, obviously.
Thanks for writing in and sharing your report! Have you also reviewed your Mac firewall settings since updating? Here’s more info on what you’ll need setup to have Roon function properly:
I’d also test out restarting AirPlay services on the Mac mini. You can do this by toggling the AirPlay functionality off and on from System Preferences > Sharing or Control Center
I turned off the Firewall and then relaunched Roon. Same result. Roon does not recognize my networked devices.
I also toggled on/off all of the sharing options. Same result.
I think the Sequoia 15.1.1 has changed the menu options relative to the version you seem to be referring to. There is no AirPlay services section or option. I could not find an option to toggle AirPlay on/off.
I have the same issue with a Mac Mini with 15.1.1 - the firewall has always been off. I rebooted Roon, my WiiM endpoint and my Mac client and it still had no end points. Then I rebooted the Mac Mini with the Roon server and everything worked again.
Thanks Dennis! I followed the tech support advice from earlier in the thread (see above) and it had no impact. Incredibly I just came home from work and was about to reboot as per your suggestion and I noticed that the end points had all been restored! It’s a miracle! In any case thanks for your help!!!
I am having the same issues. Since latest Roon updates (on M4 Mac Mini with latest MacOS), Roon cannot find audio devices on my network. Toggling network access off and on with reboot does not help. Also Roon backups failing. All worked flawlessly before. Please fix these asap in the next Roon update!
I turned off my firewall and then went to settings > sharing and toggled on/off all content and media sharing. Initially it had no immediate impact but I came back to it later in the day and miraculously all of my end points had reappeared and were functioning just as the had been before the update. Kinda crazy but it worked eventually. I didn’t mess with anything else on the system so I’m fairly confident this did the trick. Good luck!
I tried again. I ran Roon with local network access toggled off in the Mac System Preferences, of course it could not see my networked audio devices. When I toggled local network access back on, the networked devices showed up right away in Roon (even though previously doing all this toggling with a reboot in between didn’t work). Weird but glad they’re back. Unfortunately still having backup fails but will describe that more in a new thread.
Glad it worked. It’s a weird thing. Be aware that it’s possible that you may have to do it again after restarting the Roon server or installing a Roon update; at least some people reported this.
It seems that somehow macOS and Roon don’t seem to agree about the network usage permissions. macOS 15 added more severe security lockdowns and either there is a bug in macOS or Roon must do something different to permanently establish the permission.
Exactly the same for me.
I run roon server on a “headless” Mac Mini M1.
At some point I lost all the network devices, only the Mac mini system audio was visible, not so useful.
After connecting to the Mac mini with a Remote Desktop sharing, I rebooted and opened Roon (not the server, it starts automatically in background at boot). The security message from MacOS popped up asking to allow roon to discover devices on the local network, I authorized it and everything worked fine again.
It’s a MacOS issue, but to be honest it would help if Roon could display a message somewhere, like in audio settings, informing the user that it is not authorized to discover network devices. I am not sure however if this information is available from Apple APIs.
