I am having the same problem. About every 30 seconds my song stops and roon GUI says to “select an audio zone”. Sometimes if I let it sit for a minute or two the zones reappear and it reselects the last zone I was using.
This started immediately after the 1.7 upgrade.
I’m running roon on a headless Compulabs Airtop 3 with an i9 9900k processor and 64 GB of RAM dedicated to running Roon Core. Output is from the core to a Hegel H360 via USB C on nVidia Quadro 4000. This is happening on my other PC used to control the core while trying to play through headphones (both versions of roon are the same)… While I was just typing this I just saw the roon interface on my PC again drop all audio zones and then 5 seconds later pick them back up again - and I’m not even playing any music. No firewall issues. Please let me know if you need anything from me. Thank you.
I have split your post into it’s own thread so we can take a closer look at this issue. Just to confirm - when this behavior occurs, all your audio zones, including “System Output” disappears?
What does you network setup look like - can you let me know the model/manufacturer of all your networking gear?
Do you have any antivirus programs installed on either PC that has a built-in firewall?
Hi thank you Noris, yes what happens is every output dissapears except for occasionally my
Hegel, then that goes too. (This includes System Output). The initial problem that has me notice that is that it drops in the middle of a song. It seems like there was a patch just the other day and that may have resolved the problem but I haven’t tested long enough to be sure and won’t really be able to try it until tomorrow. For reference my setup is as follows:
On the core I have 2 1GB Intel cards set up in teaming mode that have a wired of course connection to a netgear nighthawk ax8. I connect from my laptop usually over wifi and the laptop is also runing an ax card - intel ax200. No AV on the machine, including having disabled all MS defender protection (on both the core and my laptop). Also again audio output goes wired from my core over USB C from an nVidia Quadro 4000 to a Hegel H360 DAC/Integrated. Issue started immediately after applying the 1.7 (500 stable) release, and again might have been fixed by patch or whatever was installed other day - but I can let you know. Thank you
One last note, I’ve been playing music with the zones window open and now it seems system output remains along with hegel, but all zones enabled on the laptop running the GUI dissapear.
Thanks, all rebooted. Funny thing it seems to happen more when I use my Bluetooth headphones. When I play direct to the Hegel from the core it doesn’t seem to drop (though I haven’t tested enough yet).
I also ran wireshark and captured the communication between the two boxes. This is only a sample while one song played and dropped - seems like in other wireshark logs the output devices keep being enumerated and enabled, etc. But I’m less than a wireshark novice. Pasted one stream below.

I never before came across a consumer grade (modem/router/access point) all-in-one thingy that supports LACP (802.11ad). I also couldn’t spot anything on the website for this product that makes me believe it does.
The nVidia Quadro RTX 4000 offers 3 DisplayPort 1.4 and a VirtualLink (special purpose USB-C connector intended for use with HMD devices). As the Airtop3 seems to have plenty of ordinary USB ports, I would use one of these instead.
I appreciate you trying to help - but this system and exact setup have been running flawlessly for 4 months and then the moment the patch was applied it started happening. That’s all I know. But really, thank you for taking so much time to look into it.
Noris, I can try that but probably 90% of computers ship with Realtek, and this has never happened until the exact moment the update was installed. Also if I remove my realtek drivers I will not be able to play sound when I ply my headphones in which is how I normally use them because the driver controls the headphone jack. So even if it somehow fixed the issue with the bluetooth headphones it would break everything else headphone related, and I notmally plug in headphones since bluetooth reduces quality. Any other thoughts? Otherwise I will try a reinstall. However it seems like the systems send each other RST (Reset) commends after dpulicating packets that are out of sequence over the network. I understand the hesitation to uninstall the Realtek drivers. Perhaps as a test, you can find the currently installed driver version and temporarily uninstall it to see if this is the actual cause?

I am not certain if these cards are playing an effect here either, in the past I have seen link-aggregation behave strangely with Roon, so if this is a simpler test, I would consolidate the network into one Ethernet adapter/interface and see if the issue remains the same.
Your latest update fixed the problem. Just my opijnion of course (and you may not want to keep reading if you don’t want to hear some strangers “constructive critisim” but:
If someone says that there have been no issues for 7 months and then the day of a Roon update something starts breeaking, it doesn’t feel right to go back to the user with suggestions of disabling components or other non Roon features in order to fix the problem. Clearly the problem was with the original Roon update since everything worked without ever once having a problem until the updatae, then it started immediately having the issue non-stop. Anyway your patch has fixed it for me, it was just frustrating that it didn’t seem like you were looking at the possibility it was a Roon issue and were askign me to make changes that would have significantly downgraded my experience inside and outside of Roon. Ok, rant over, sorry, and all that aside I do appreciate your time and effort and help. Thanks.
Glad to hear that the issue has since been resolved!
I am not certain what in our last version may have triggered a change in behavior here, often times we find that even when there is a Roon update there are other changes to the system user’s may not have noticed or the issue is an environmental one (such as an update and reboot displaying or obstructing the issues that were actually due to something else).
