I own a Gustard R30 DAC, that I updated to the new CelMusperOS version 5.0.1.
Initially, it was properly connecting to Roon Bridge, which still was the “old” version (if I remember correctly, something with 1.7 - but please take that with a grain of salt).
In Roon’s “About”, I got offered an update to Roon Bridge 1.8 (if I remember correctly, I am pretty sure it was not 2.0).
Now, the connection to the Gustard R30 is broken, Roon bridge is not shown/active in “About”. No way to make it work via reboots and other tricks.
Is there any way for me to go back to my previous version of Roon Bridge or establish a connection with the current update 1.8?
I’m confused. Are you talking about Roon Bridge that’s installed on the R30? Because this seems to be how Gustard implements Roon. (It doesn’t ship Roon Ready). Which is a rather questionable approach.
So this should be a question for Gustard.
Though I’m not sure if your woes have anything to do with this update. Also, Roon Bridge 1.7 and 1.8 seem both very old. Maybe open a proper tech support case via Support → Get Help.

Is there any way to find out, what changed between 1.7 and 1.8 to maybe solve the issue?
For example: does 1.8 (cannot see the exact version, since Roon Bridge only shows up in “about”, when it is active…) already need the new dependencies, that the 2.x-versions require
(NET 10 dependencies glibc 2.27 or later and OpenSSL 1.1.1 or later)?
If your issue is with Roon Bridge on the Gustard, please contact Gustard support.
Note: There is a chance that current Roon no longer talks to old and outdated Roon Bridges but I don’t know. Maybe create a ticket here to inquire about it. If so, then trying to go back to an even older Bridge doesn’t help you.

Yes, I do run Roon Rock, that’s why I posted it here.
“Roon Bridge” showed up in “about” the moment, Gustard R30 was switched on to its LAN streaming input - they are not Roon Ready, they just run a Roon Bridge software internally, afaik, an a internal Linux Board, attached to the LAN input. I always looked at it like a kind of Mini-RPi streaming bridge-like setup: a small board, “translating” the communication (hence their CelMusperOS, which afaik is based on Linux).
That’s why I came up with the V1.7 bridge version, that Roon Software showed ne to be installed on my Roon Rock. This was the latest “update” offered.
After updating R30’s firmware to the current version, the “1.8 update” was offered in Roon’s “about” from my Roon Rock installation.
Can’t say, why, just am able to give you a description. I regularly visit the “about” screen to keep my Roon Rock and Roon software up to date. That’s why was sure, that the 1.8 update had not been offered previously.
Of course, I will contact Gustard. I just hoped, that someone had seen this problem before and knew about a solution.
There is an option there on the r30.local to re-install Roon Bridge, which I used on my DR70N when Roon botched a previous update. That version put me back to the older version, which I then left until Roon corrected the version and the update worked fine.
Yes, Marin, I checked //r30.local. Toggling the “Roon button” on & off there did not help. R30 did not connect, and the configuration page of R30 showed the same below the “Roon button”. Since Roon Rock’s 1.7-version of Roon Bridge had worked, I assumed it was Roon’s own 1.8 version, that is not compatible to CelWareOS 5.0.1 anymore.
I will try to follow the adivce from @Michael_Harris tonight (thank you for the tip!!!) and hope, that this helps me as it did with his installation!
Michael, maybe, this tip might prevent that: in Roon, go to Settings / “About” and click on the options on the righthandside of the Roon Bridge Banner. There, deselect “automatic update” and “only update minor versions” and select “only manual update”. That prevents, that the 1.8 version will be installed automatically.
Funny thing was I did it on the DR70 but forgot to do it on the R30, so we will see what happens when I return home. I have a Pi4 running Ropieee and Wiimpro plus connected as well, so I should be fine one way or the other
@dvdr , in cases like this, particularly when you’re running an old version, you should consider creating an “image” copy of your SDCard(s). This is an exact duplicate of the SDCard, which you can write back (restore), or make additional copies whenever you wish.

I went to r30.local second tab, “Roon Bridge” and hit the reset button.
Interestingly enough, that brought back Roon Bridge v1.8 in Roon software’s “About” settings dialogue, but the R30 got recognized, anyway!!! That seemed strange, in a way, since the update from 1.7 to 1.8 initially had broken the connection to the R30.
But I won’t complain, as long as v1.8 works…
Then, I got offered an update for the Roon Bridge 1.8 version. No indication, to which version. Once I allowed the update, the connection was broken, again. So I did the “reset Roon Bridge” procedure, again, and ended up with a working 1.8 Roon Bridge version. I disabled automatic updates, to be shure not to loose that.
