Denafrips DAC users

Just tried this and I need -10 to get to close to 9 o’clock - this Heed says it’s input is 250mv so my speakers must be super efficient!

Capacitors need to be replaced over a long period of time. This regularly happens with people using decades old tube amp.

I’ve replaced 1000’s of caps in gear repairs over the many years of servicing HIFI gear. Buts never its been noted that the sound was slowly getting worse over time…they just died one day or left for a longtime without use and then don’t work.

Great to know this info…

I placed the speakers on IsoAcoustics Iso-Puck Series Acoustic Isolators now. The Bass tends to be better now & tight… or maybe it is just my perception… 3 Days ON, still BURN-IN in progress… Waiting for my XLR’s…

At low Volumes, with A500’s Hub WISA data transfer, the music is amazing. Tighter bass, clean high’s and the voice is perfect for me… Into 3 days BURN-IN and progressing… Will update once i get my XLR’s… I’m sure it will be a different experience…

Have you guys tested your Denafrips DAC with Roon DSP to DSD? there is a difference you can hear right away from the PCM audio, no telling it is better but truly audible different in my Ares II.
Can you tell the difference between 64/128/256/512?

I will test it out once I get my XLR cables in another couple of days…

now you said that, what cables are you getting I have no knowledge about XLR and would like to test, was thinking about these ones from Amazon.

Not sure whether it is reasonable to get “audiophile” grade XLR ones, what do you think?

I got it from straightwire, @mavmcl . I will update the thread once I receive them and burn-in like 30 - 50 hrs… My previous cables were from Moon Audio, Silver dragon.

For sure this is not the place but those will connect to a Denafrips :slightly_smiling_face:… what do you say about these ones? https://www.transparentcable.com/collections/analog-audio-interconnects/products/perfect-front-row-balanced-interconnect
within budget nice brand, other options you see in that range?

Is anyone here using a Denafrips Ares II with Allo DigiOne? I’ve just started to notice a slight ‘pop’ when the DAC switches off the coax SPDIF circuit if nothing is playing (after about 5 seconds idle), when I start playing another track there is a slight ‘pop’ before it starts?

Many people here use BlueJeans cables.

I was considering BlueJeans, those Transparent looked nice and good value, but… I am a very happy Kimber user, I think I will check the pbj and Tonik.

I use Supra DAC-XLR cable with my Ares II.

I have Ares II connected via coax SPDIF to a BluesSound Node 2i. I get occasional very silent snaps or pops when the tracks start. I added 500ms resync delay in the Roon Device settings Advanced and it helped a bit. I still get them sometimes.

That’s good to know, so it’s not specific to the Pi and Allo HAT then.

(Edit: that’s a shame I was thinking of throwing some money at the transport end of things :joy: but it’s the Denafrips then)

Most good dacs don’t have volume control and designed to work with preamp. Maybe look at a small Pre like the Denafrips Hestia

This is not a rule though, they’ll most often start losing capacitiy and increasing ESR (becoming a resistor). Haven’t seen them go pop or go open circuit for a long time.
