But take a look at this paper from 2005, particularly the last sentence of the conclusion: “The threshold values [for listener perception of audible change] seem to be sufficiently larger than the jitter actually observed in various consumer products.”
Thank you @Bill_Janssen for pulling up those references.
Saved me the time.
Dont know your level of understanding or technical background but Amir does a good job talking about the jitter issue. Worth a view
Took me 2 tries. This morning the factory reset option appeared in RMS. When I tried to factory reset with the other speaker off, i got exactly the same result as 2 days before: lost 1 speaker (the same one).
Then the rebel in me took over: try with both speakers on. This worked! playing from Roon. Whooopaah!
I made screenshot from all the REW adjustments, so gonna put that back again now.
I intend to read them over the Christmas period. Although I’m now regretting suggesting it😔
Just to annoy those of a bits is bits persuasion I do notice differences in sound between streamers. If you accept that is possible then how do you explain it?
The explanation is your brain
Do the exact same listening with proper DB testing and you wont be able to reproduce your “beliefs” / “perceptions”.
Want to learn more? There are plenty of ways to educate yourself. The problem is after you are done, you feel like such a dolt for saying all the things you have said in the past. It’s ok, science can sometimes do that to you. It did me
ok but i thought you were saying that somehow the room correction is better with the new firmware? surely there is no difference there as the filters in lanspeaker would be no different to the filters in ascend?
I was comparing tweaks like cables or digital sources to REW room correction. It is such a big difference, specially in the bass region. I play ear bleeding loud techno music, I hear ALL layers of bass and it’s just unmatched by any system I had until now. Was not commenting on the sound difference between the old and the new firmware. To be completely honest, I don’t hear the difference between ethernet>8C & ethernet>Mini DSP SHD Studio>AES>8C (both using Roon/Qobuz)
I am trying to install the new 2.0 firmware, but can’t work out how to do so from version 1.3.18, which is currently installed. I rarely connect them to the internet, so hadn’t realised there had been further firmware updates (1.4), which it seems you need for the update to 2.0.
I updated to 2.0.4 today, updated with Lanspeaker but don’t know if there is another way?
Works perfect for me.
For me are the 8C’s my best buy ever.
We recently bought a new huge sofa and rug and that clearly had an effect on the sound. So I called my dealer and in a few days he came over to measure and adjust the 8C’s
