I am currently updating a customers Merging NADAC Player which has been in storage for around 2 years. The player successfully updated to Roon Server version 2.0 (build 1388). In About - Roon Server it says an update is ready to be downloaded but when I click here to install, It shows Downloading for around 1 second and then says there was an error checking for an update? Please can you advise on how I should update?
Probably same issue and solution as here with woefully outdated Merging devices that are missing current certificates:
Note that the device you are trying to update has Roon OS Build 183 from November 2019 (Roon OS Release Notes), so even older than the 2 years the device was in storage, but current is Build 259:
Maybe, but then the latest firmware clearly runs a Roon OS from 2019 - it’s in your screenshot!
The same issue happened with many devices with outdated operating systems, and it happened specifically with Merging devices as well. It’s all there in the linked thread and the other threads and the Roon help page linked from there.
Thanks for your help here which is much appreciated! I managed to get the NADAC Player updated to build 1392, however still won’t check to see the availability of updates. Also, as a server it will control other Roon Endpoints but will not play directly from the NADAC Player despite showing in Roon that’s playing. I spoke to technical support at Merging and they are aware of the issue which could be affecting many units if they are running the latest software.
They are currently working on a fix and will issue new firmware when available. This will fix the problem with the Roon software updating and the NADAC Player running as a server and outputting through it’s own audio outputs.
It’s encouraging to know that despite the NADAC Player having been discontinued that Merging are still offering both technical support and continuing with firmware updates.
