EverSolo DMP-A6

Thanks for the link. This is the most interesting read so far on this thread. :slightly_smiling_face::+1:

So as an owner of the Master Edition for a week I can give a status update.

It is pretty good as a Roon endpoint. It is a nice device to use so adding it’s functionality as a Roon endpoint is a nice experience.

It is visible on the network when configured for USB but the DAC is disconnected. It reverts to an alternative output seamlessly.

It can be switched between internal playback and Roon pretty seamlessly. I have seen no issues so far but I haven’t tried to ‘break’ anything.

It doesn’t switch between different endpoints into the same DAC. Example Eversolo via USB vs. Holo Red via i2S LVDS. You can switch from the A6 to Red but when switching back you have to restart the A6. No big deal but worth pointing out. I switch by changing DAC input on a Spring 3.

Roon only sees PCM on the A6 as 384/32, not 768/32 as in its specification. DSD512 is unaffected.

I’m cool with this thing in my setup. It is nice to use and with the reassurance of Roon Ready certification it is an excellent option. It helps that it will work standalone without Roon without requiring major reconfiguration. My initial experience suggests you need to have any pre-existing library tagged immaculately in order to be seen tidily on the A6. Mine isn’t outside of Roon and it shows! I haven’t explored its DAC yet. It is a ‘to do’ but it isn’t intended to rival the Spring 3 with pre. And as of one weeks use the Holo Red has the edge in the bass region which is important to me. That might change if you believe in burn in. But the A6 is slightly more holographic in the mids.
Finally it would be nice if the 384/768 issue was looked at. It is a bit strange but might be easily addressable given time.

This is a matter of convenience versus technical correctness AFAIK. Much like in the beginningof digital (HD) TV where HD TVs allowed to watch FHD content too (internal down scaling).

So if you possess 768kHz content and want to play that in classic ways, the A6 can and will accept that (because it has the clock needed) but will then throw away half the data before feeding it into the filter section (then apply the reconstruction filter and perform upsampling to 768 kHz again).
As Roon can do its own resampling, there is no point to send 768kHz content to the A6 just so he can throw away half the data.
Therefore I wouldn’t hold my breath, waiting until this (non) issue gets addressed.

I’m using it as a USB streamer in this instance. I’m not convinced there is justification, technical or otherwise to limit its pass through performance in Roon. If there is another reason like that performance is limited to native files then fine but it would be good to confirm that.

DAC input (filter) is limited to 384kHz (see page 21).

I guess Roon Labs never looked at streaming performance, always at (direct) output (DAC) specs when certifying devices (see also the various other discussions about direct output related themes [CXN v2, Rose, …]) or might be a concession to limited WLAN throughput (a sampling frequency that works most of the time no matter if wired or wireless) or a concession to UAC2 for use as streamer (higher sampling rates usually require some sort of driver or special support and thus may not work).
I agree that a clarification is preferable, question is who to ask for. Roon or Zidoo?

Update: Thinking more about it, I guess the UAC2 limit is the most-likely reason why no higher sampling rates are needed over all.

It’s been VERY interesting reading all the feedback about this streamer over the last few months and I really want to pull the trigger and get one.

However I don’t really need one as I currently have my Innuos Zen Mini MkIII running directly into both external DACs and my Lyngdorf amp.

So, can someone kindly sum up for me why this might make things better as I need help justifying to myself that it would be money worth spending!

So far I have screen and VU meters! lol

Sounds like you have your answer…same answer I have too :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

That is not the answer I was looking for! lol

Shame isn’t it? My setup works perfectly but I do miss some cover art. Maybe not enough then to spend AU$1399

You could just get a rpi and 7” display in a case with ropieee.org for a display - I have at lease 5 in the house.

That is certainly true…

But I want the A6 because everyone else is getting one :sob:

:innocent:

I love reading post’s like yours as I find myself in exactly the same place, and also have no (real) use for another streamer either, but FOMO is in the driving seat.

I already have two unused RR setup’s at home and managed to stop myself buying a WIIM Pro when they were on discount as well.
Good to know that I am not alone

With a possible 20% off it might still happen :scream:

Hi I’m struggling to find the 1.1.75 firmware. My unit is on 1.1.60 and I clicked the beta option but it stills ays it’s up to date. Did you download the new version to a usb stick and update from there?

Graham I seem to remember it is a slow rollout, but was supposed to be finished by the beginning of July.
There was also somewhere shared that you could sign up for early access.

Calling @AMT as I think he shared it

1.1.75 is the Roon Ready update and is already out. 1.1.60 is two builds behind so something is not right there.

Darko is on the EverSolo, too: https://darko.audio/2023/07/in-berlin-the-eversolo-dmp-a6/

It does look a solid piece of kit this Eversolo. I have no need of just a streamer currently but if I was it would be top of my list to check out.

Yes the Eversolo DMP-A6.

Doh you are absolutely correct.
Thanks for clarifying :+1:
