This 2022 blog posting is informative. Since then, there’s now an abundance of Dolby Atmos albums on Tidal. My question is how to play such Atmos Music albums via Roon and Trinnov? FYI, Lyngdorf accomplish this task via their ‘Tidal Connect with Dolby Atmos Music’ app.
Trinnov advise that Roon itself does not support playback of Dolby Atmos Music. Given the expanding library of Dolby Atmos music albums on Tidal, maybe it’s something that Roon might address in a future upgrade.
First, vote for Atmos support. Only 289 Roon users have done so to this date.
Second, understand that all streaming Atmos tracks (Tidal, Qubuz and Apple) are not full resolution TrueHD files, but compressed similar to mp3 files. So, you may be chasing something that, once you hear it, you will be disappointed in.
Finally, if you do want to hear full resolution 24/48 Dolby TrueHD Atmos through Roon — which truly does sound wonderful — you have to limit to eight channels and you must decode the mkv files from ripping Atmos Blu-ray discs, or from downloading mkv files, to 5.1.2 wav files playable in Roon using the Dolby Reference Player and MMH Atmos Helper. This takes advantage of the object based Atmos format and hard codes it for eight channels. Without the Dolby Reference Player, converting the mkv files to wav is just 7.1 and not Atmos.

Trinnov further advises that presently an Nvidia Shield or an AppleTV (Tidal app) would be the best method for playing Dolby Atmos music.
Yes, both will work — just not through Roon! JCR
FWIW, Lyngdorf provide ‘Tidal Connect with Dolby Atmos Music’ app with their MP-40/50/60 AVP’s.
