Describe the issue

I have a life membership to Roon and bought a Nucleus a few years ago as my core, which connects to a number of devices 1. a Devialet Expert amp and Martin Logan speakers, 2. to KEF LS60 powered speakers, 3. a Waversa mini hpa headphone amplifier, 4. a Bluesound Mini powered speaker, 5. a Bluesound Flex powered speaker. 1-4 are connected by Erhernet, the Flex speaker relies on wifi. The system is controlled either through a Microsoft Surface Pro computer or through an Android phone (Oppo).

The system has worked well with very few issues until about a week ago when play cut out suddenly and I could no longer access the Nucleus core. The next day when I turned on everything at first appeared back to normal, I selected an began playing a track, which played normally for about 30-60 seconds before going silent and I could no longer access the core. I have tried restarting the core, and got a similar result - it all appeared fine, but playback failed after 30-60 seconds. Thereafter one just get core access error messages and the flicking logo. Having left the system alone for about a day, I tried again and had the same outcome as when I restarted the core (ie initially looks fine but playback lasts just seconds).

Describe your network setup

Our broadband provider is Wireless Nation who supplied a Huawei 2.4G router witha 306 Mbps download speed. However, as noted most Hifi equipment is ethernet connected and wifi does not appear to be the issue. I have described the hifi system gear in the previous question response. All of this equipment has been working fine before my recent problems suddenly appeared.

Have you tried restarting the entire system , Modem, Router and then the Nucleus \

May Help

Mike, that worked a treat! Thank you very much. I had thought of restarting the nucleus, but hadn’t thought about going further up the line to the router and modem. Anyway everything seems to be working fine now and I am back to focusing on enjoying the music.

Kind regards
Dave

No,it looks like I got ahead of myself. Everything looked good after following Mike’s advice to restart the modem, router, then Nucleus, and things went normally for about an hour, and then the same problem recurred. Today I moved the Nucleus to another ethernet port and repeated the restart. Again it looked back to normal. I played 1:42 into one song before the link with the Nucleus cut out again. I then swapped over the ethernet cable going into the Nucleus. Once again, doing this had a temporary impact, when I got back to my computer I had connection with the Nucleus, but play once again cut and the connection was lost after less than a minute of play. Other things (eg printers and computers) are working fine either via Wifi or Ethernet cables. And until the link is broken, music is (briefly) playing well. It feels like this is an internal Nucleus issue, but what I don’t know.

A post was split to a new topic: Nucleus is rebooting maybe every 10 mins

@GAVAN_DROHAN while your issue may be similar to the original poster’s issue, it is best to create your own support ticket with Roon at the Support linkso as not to dilute the support needed by the OP.

Hi @Dave_Grimmond,

Thanks for writing in! It’s good to see you on community again.

A follow up question for you - does this issue happen no matter the endpoint? If you disable all endpoints and only play to the system output of one of your remote devices, does music still cut out?

A fresh review of your Nucleus diagnostic doesn’t point to anything hardware-issue-related, but we’re seeing clumps of network failures across the board.

Lets refresh your RAATServer database as a next step:

You can generate a new RAATServer instance on your device by following these instructions, but please be aware that this will reset your Roon Settings → Audio Tab to factory settings and I would advise making a backup of any custom DSP settings you have:

  • Create a Backup of your current Roon database
  • Exit out of Roon
  • Navigate to your Roon’s Database Location
  • Find the folder that says “RAATServer”
  • Rename the “RAATServer” folder to “RAATServer_old”
  • Restart the Roon App to generate a new RAATServer folder

Thanks! We’ll be on standby for your reply. :+1:

Thanks for that advice and suggestions, but unfortunately no joy from either suggestion. The same thing happens with just one end point enabled and with the new RAATServer.

Any other ideas?

Dave

Hey @Dave_Grimmond,

Thanks for the update! Could you next please share a screenshot of the webUI of the Nucleus?

Do you have any Roon devices acting also as a Tailscale node?

We’re still seeing large numbers of errors in creation to the Kef endpoints - were you able to test out playback only to a system output of a remote? I would investigate the Kef endpoints, ensure they have stable hardwire network connection - reboot the devices and potentially investigate performing a factory reset.

Thanks!

I am away for a couple of days. I will follow up with those suggestions when I get back.

Hi Benjamin. Is this what you are after:

Sorry I do not understand the question about devices acting as a tailscale node. I guess that means my answer is: not knowingly.

I have the Kef’s disabled from Roon at present but will investigate those ideas about re-booting etc.

Hi @Dave_Grimmond,

Thanks for sending that over! Everything looks good to the end. Let me know how the other troubleshooting steps go :+1:

Hi Benjamin

I am not sure what you did, but everything seems back to normal now. The only thing that I did since my last message was to unplug and re-power up the Kefs. I do not know what you managed to do, but thanks very much for whatever you did and for all the time you have put into helping me. Given that I have had a few false dawns with this problem, I might wait a day before pronouncing this problem solved, but at the moment it looks very promising. Thanks again

Dave

Hey @Dave_Grimmond,

Thanks for the update! We haven’t done much on our end, certainly keep me posted on how things go over the next few days. :+1:

That suggests that the re-boot of the Kef’s might have been the critical factor. All is going well still, but will keep in mind the idea of checking the Kef’s if problems like this arise again.
