I have been using Playlist Improver and I like it, but there appears to be a bug somewhere that limits its usability. I keep my playlists in Tidal. When I do an "upgrade quality" operation, Roon makes the change and then a minute or so later it reverts back to the original state. Sometimes it does not get completely reverted leaving duplicate tracks equal to two times the number of "upgrade quality" tracks. I think that the bug is in the Roon to Tidal playlist sync process, not Playlist Improver. Previously, I noticed that when I tried to change a Tidal playlist name from within Roon, it would change it and then revert back to the original name a minute or so later.
Describe your network setup
Roon is running on a NUC. Wired network using a Zyxel gigabit switch and Eero gigabit router/WAP. Internet connection is gigabit Fiber.
To confirm that the bug is in the Roon to Tidal playlist sync process, I changed a playlist name from withing the Tidal app. The change was sync’ed to Roon and it showed up as the name of the playlist from within Roon. Later, the name reverted back to the original name in both Roon and Tidal.
If possible, could you repeat the process resulting in the bug you mention, but this time share the specific date, time, and name of the playlist your attempting to update?
When you mention later on the updates have reverted, how long later does this happen? Could you share a more specific timestamp around this as well?
From there, our team will enable diagnostic mode for your Roon Server to take a closer look into what might be going on.
While we troubleshoot, could you also setup a more basic network setup and get a direct connection from your Roon Server machine directly to your primary router over ethernet? Thank you!
The network is as basic as possible without losing functionality. Roon client and server are both connected via wire ethernet to the gig ethernet switch which is connected directly to the router. The router has a wired ethernet connection to the gig fiber connection at the demarc.
On 7/30 at 10:20 am (UTC -8 Pacific Time) I changed the “Sunday Morning Classics” playlist to “Easy Listening - Big” from within the Tidal app. At 10:20:55 that change was replicated to Roon. At 10:22:15 the name reverted back to “Sunday Morning Classics” in Roon and that change had replicated back to Tidal by the time that I switched to the Tidal app.
And in the opposite direction… At 10:40:00 I made the same change from within the Roon app. At 10:40:35 the change was replicated in Tidal. At 10:45:10 the change reverted back to the original name in Roon. At 10:45:35 the change to the original name was replicated back in Tidal.
Thanks for the reports! Our team will take a closer look and should have more information to share soon.
And to confirm, you used the playlist improver in the above situation at 10:22 that caused the revert in playlist name? The only issue I’ve heard so far is with playlist names not saving, but the playlist improver doesn’t touch playlist names.
I think you’re correct here.
Could you please temporarily bypass the switch while we troubleshoot? It would be good to cross off any potential network-related errors in the meantime.
Let me know if your issues persist with a direct router connection.
The Roon core is headless. If I eliminate the switch, then there is no way for a Roon client to interact with the core. Suggesting that the problem is a networking issue is illogical. If it was a networking problem, then lots of things would be broken. The problem is exclusive to very specific Roon operations related to playlist changes and the synchronization of those changes with Tidal.
I have another example of the problem. I have a Tidal based playlist with 1255 tracks. Playlist Improver suggests Improving Quality on 165 tracks. When I confirm the change for the 165 tracks, a bunch of duplicate tracks start to show up in the playlist, and then the 165 “Improve Quality” goes away from Playlist Improver. A minute or so later, the 165 “Improve Quality” tracks are again listed in Playlist Improver along with 550 duplicate tracks. Playlist Improver does not permanently fix the Improve Quality tracks and it creates hundreds of duplicate tracks, which makes it pretty much unusable.
It is interesting that this only happens with certain playlists. I have corrected “Improve Quality” tracks without incident on some playlists. Perhaps it is related to the size of the playlist.
Even though these problems arise when using Playlist Improver, it appears that errors are occurring while the playlist is being synchronized with Tidal.
Roon Playlist Improver Quality Upgrade creates duplicates on Tidal playlist.
When running Upgrade Quality operation on a Tidal playlist, the operation finishes, but after a few seconds the Tidal playlist gets larger by the number of improved tracks.
The Upgrade Quality operation is then again available for the same tracks.
The final Tidal playlist gets duplicates as a result of upgrade quality operation.

Hi @Jozo_Slejko,
Thanks for reaching out to us about this. Can you provide us with some screenshots showing the duplication and if possible a link to the playlist where this happened?
Thank you for the additional information. This behavior seems strange, I have activated diagnostics mode for your account and I’ll bring up this behavior with the team. We’ll leave your thread open until we receive further feedback from the team regarding this, thanks!
Our apologies for the auto-close timer. I wanted to ping this thread to verify you’d seen my colleague’s post above. A copy of the database would be the most expedited path for development to find a fix for this issue. Thank you!
Thanks @noris
Yeah, it seems the original playlist has issues with sync.
Even though, playlist manipulation in the new playlist is a bit laggish in the UI.
