Hi All, I have been going in circles and going nowhere. I have been trying to download Roon Rock, from : Download
To install RoonOS recovery, you will first need to download the factory reset disk image to another computer (like a Windows PC or a Mac). You can download the image from here. After the download, this file has an extension of “.img.gz” – you do not need to decompress/unzip it. From the “here” link I get:
NoSuchKey
The specified key does not exist.
No such object: roon_updates/production/roonbox-linuxx64-nuc4-usb-factoryreset.img.gz
Does anyone have a good link or is this a temporary glitch?
@Laurie_Chaffey the download link is indeed broken. While it may be temporary, it’s worth reporting to the Support channel so Roon knows to address the broken state and guard against such situations in the future.
Maybe I was just lucky when I downloaded the ROCK image yesterday while setting up a new NUC13.
I will say that it took me the good part of an hour, clicking through links on the Roon site, to find it. (I am persistant if not talented) A lot of going around in circles until I finally found it. I just took a quick look, and the circling started again. Sorry.
I certainly hope not. I am getting very bored of all the posts about the changes needed mitigate the Windows 11 security ‘enhancements’ - and, in general, I am not the one generating those posts.
Edit:
It has occurred to me that any RoonOS 3.0 update will be likely be UEFI boot only (as the last two RoonOS updates have been) and thus this update will not apply to the BIOS boot Nucleus and Nucleus Plus devices (or any BIOS boot ROCK installations).
Unfortunately, this will mean that we will continue to get questions about Windows 11 SMB guest credentials not working with those BIOS boot devices
For those BIOS boot ROCK users using NUCs that are able to support UEFI boot (I’m not sure what the status of UEFI support is like on the earlier NUCs on the ROCK supported list), the release of RoonOS 3.0 in due coarse might be a good opportunity to rebuild their Roon Server using a new ROCK installation using UEFI boot - which will get them access to RoonOS 3.0 solving both the SMB access issue and giving them the ability to configure Tailscale on the server for ARC use behind CG-NAT or multiple routers.
Maybe, a guide and support path for doing the same for the Nucleus and Nucleus Plus models could also be provided - although I quite understand that those users who originally bought a Nucleus or Nucleus Plus may not feel confident about undertaking such an operation or may simply not want to do this whereas ROCK users, almost by definition, may be more confident in their ability to undertack such an operation.
It appears that this article on RoonOS 3.0 was made available prematurely. It has now been removed.
Shame.
Having said that, assuming that, like RoonOS 2.0 and 2.1 (build 271), The installer (ROCK) for RoonOS 3.0 is UEFI boot only, this still wont solve the issue for Nucleus and Nucleus Plus users (as well as ROCK users that installed using BIOS boot).
I see RoonOS 3.0 is available in early access (and the RoonOS 3.0 help centre article is back):
Still nothing to solve the Roon ARC behind CG-NAT issue for BIOS boot RoonOS devices.
Maybe it’s time to produce an official help centre article on how to convert your NUC (and possibly Nucleus and Nucleus Plus devices) to use UEFI boot. The downsides of being stuck on RoonOS 1.0 build 259 are starting to mount up.
