In today’s Darko review of two Marantz amps, he clearly intimated that he knows when the Roon HEOS launch is scheduled but will not say for a couple of reasons. One, it’s not his announcement to make. And two, if he did say the date and it becomes delayed for some reason that he will look like a “plonker”.
From that I deduce that both Roon and Marantz are on top of the situation and as soon as it’s technically done, Roon Ready will be released for Marantz/Denon. And if Darko knows the tentative date, that it’s likely to not be “too” long.
Roon Ready for the HEOS universe will be one of the largest manufacturer markets for Roon. The sheer dollars involved speak to the impending-ness.
The part in the video explaining his answer to “When Roon Ready is coming to Marantz” is clearly indicated as a “paid promotion”. It starts at 4:54 with adding the watermarks “paid promotion” and the Roon Logo and a yellow progress bar at the bottom indicating the length of the “paid promotion”. At the end of the 'paid promotion" (at 5:56) the watermarks and yellow progress bar disappear and a white noise mark is played to mark the end of the “paid promotion” before the review continues.
The text of the “paid promotion” makes perfect sense: It is up to Marantz (Masimo) and Roon to decide when to announce the Roon Readiness.
The interesting part is that Darko, in the Roon promotion part, made it very clear that there is a launch date, that he knows what it is, but that he won’t reveal it because it’s not his to reveal, and the date might change between now and then. The fact that he’d go to all that trouble counteracts the some of the sentiments here that the whole affair is a low priority with either Roon or Marantz. I assume Roon, given it was their promotional section of the video, was ok with those opaque remarks.
I took his video as a positive in the world of tea leaf reading. Roon Ready RAAT is coming.
Masimo just released a YouTube video giving some details on the Roon Ready rollout. It will be a staggered rollout because each product has to be certified by Roon. “So we have to go one by one.”
According to Masimo already certified are DMP2000NE of Denon and CD60 of Marantz.
The next batch contains all Denon Home Wireless speakers and the new Denon Home Amp. Also Marantz M1 (the Darko video reviewed that one) and M4 are in this batch according to Masimo.
Massimo’s strategy is nothing short of cheeky
You would normally expect them to be the first to add features to their flagship models.
For me it was definitely the last Marantz top product (AV10). When a 7k device is equated with a 1k
I presume first generation and HS2 Denon HEOS devices are not likely to get Roon capability, and it will only be the newer Denon/Marantz products?
I have five original/HS2 devices around the house that I would love to bring into my Roon ecosystem. My Roon server is on ROCK, so sadly RHEOS is not currently an option for me
You can run RHEOS on an another computer just a small raspberry pi will do. It will work with Rock the same, you just can’t install extensions on Rock. If it’s a big thing I would move off Rock to another Distro such as Dietpi. Thats what I did. Happier for it as it runs as well and I can install extension manager and RHEOS as well. Also it has better metrics on the system status than Rock which gives nothing.
Its going to be interesting to see how they deal with grouping of non-roon ready HEOS players. One of my top requirements.
I use both a DMO200NE and a Cinema 60 so will be well placed to see how they function.
Working on what I expect to be needed to avoid clashes with RHEOS but allow the features I rely on to be maintained (including syncing with older HS1 players)…
That will be down to HEOS not Roon to manage these syncs. It may well work as it does on Naims multiroom room, but it’s not part of Roons remit as it will only sync with Roon.
