I have a Uniti Atom connected to active speakers via the RCA pre-out. I would like to add more speakers and one option is to pair with for example a MuSo, but if I go to the multi room setup on the Naim I get a message to say that I should set up multi room via Roon.
Anyone running paired Naim units and RCA out with Roon as a single zone?
I’m not - but as long as all your endpoints are Roon Ready (ie current generation Naim… ) you should be able to group them within Roon.
Note that only the Muso 2 is Roon Ready and works with the Atom in a group, using Roon zones.
The Muso v1 isn’t Roon Ready, but it does work with Naim‘s proprietary multi-room system (which works well but only with Naim gear).
If you have a Muso v2 and want to group it with the Atom that you use with Roon, you set this up in Roon, not in the Naim app. (The Naim app probably notices that you are using the Atom with Roon, that’s why it tells you to set up multi room via Roon).
You can pair the Atom with any other Naim streamer using the Naim app.
You can pair it with any other Roon endpoint using the Roon app. This includes all Naim streamers except for the older 1st generation models.
The fact that your Atom is using powered speakers makes no difference to the way multiroom works.
(You can also use Airplay or Chromecast multiroom, but as a Roon user you probably don’t need to do that.)
What I am trying to avoid is always being tied to Roon. For example if I want to play internet radio using the preset button on the Uniti Atom I want it to come out of the speakers and a connected Naim device. I am supposing it would do that if I set up multi room with the Naim app but not if I set it up in Roon.
In this case you need to use the Naim streaming because Naim didn’t add a Roon button to the Atom or its remote. To allow the Naim app to group the devices, you probably have to switch the Atom to a different input than Roon, using the Naim app. The warning exists because otherwise the Naim users would try to group devices in the Naim app while one of the affected devices is being used by Roon.
Roon remembers your multiroom grouping and keeps using it if you start listening. If you want to change the grouping you do so in Roon before you hit the play button. The Naim app cannot control Roon multiroom.
The Naim app differs in that when you start to use it, it doesn’t retain any previous multiroom grouping. It plays only on the device you have chosen, and you add any other devices to a multiroom group from there. If you are playing on Roon the Naim multiroom options are not shown, so there is no chance of any confusion there.
That sounds good, I want it to remember the multi room settings and not have to re-do it every time.
Sadly or happily I own only ONE Naim unit (Atom HE) so I have nothing to try.
Have you tried the Naim forum , there are some very clued in people there.
To be fair it’s only going to take you about 5 seconds to add streamers to a Naim multiroom group, but yes, Roon will save you having to do this, as well as allowing you to add non-Naim streamers to a group if you have any.
When I use Roon multi room function, the feeds are out of sync.
Any suggestions how to fix it?
There was a known sync issue recently with Naim but I think a recent Naim firmware update should have fixed that one. Are your Naim boxes up to date?
Yes, although so called legacy equipment, they are uptodate.
I have to say it was working ok on Friday.
As this is an old-ish thread that was originally about a completely different question, and as the sync problem was considered solved by the Naim update and worked for you until Friday, it’s probably a different issue and you should open a support ticket by going here → Support and then clicking the big Get Help button. Support staff doesn’t routinely monitor the discussion categories of the forum.
Hello, for me, the problem wasn’t solved. There were just no more approaches and it kept going in circles.
OK, but this thread is nevertheless not the place to get any help with it. The sync was off-topic when it was first brought up here already, and nobody from Roon Labs is going to see it here.
In your (hidden) thread, the last thing was that they continue working with Naim…
That’s right!
I’ve had another problem since the last updates. I frequently get the message from ROON on the Naims (only when starting a stream):
“The audio device refuses to switch the input to ROON.”
I can’t then start a stream via ROON. However, the Naims are only used via ROON; any input other than ROON is never used. I then have to unplug the Naims, let them reconnect (Wi-Fi). Then I can start the stream via ROON as if nothing had happened, for a few days, and then start all over again.
The Naims can be controlled perfectly via the Naim app and Squeeze, even in situations where ROON is no longer working.
It’s strange, I don’t have this switching problem with the NDX-2. (I do use its optical input for the TV, and I can start Roon streams every time without problems, wether it was switched to the TV or not. I also don’t have a sync problem in a group consisting of the NDX-2 and a Denon 150, both using Roon Ready)
It only ever happens with the two Naims paired as a group.
A third Naim on the same Wi-Fi network, playing in isolation, always works and doesn’t exhibit this behavior.
I think it has something to do with the Naim & Multiroom combo in conjunction with Roon. The out-of-sync behavior is also a problem here.
I see, I only have the one ![]()
