New Chord product (Mojo 2?)

My Mojo 2 is on the way. I will be using it in four different ways…

  1. iPhone 11 Pro Max with Apple Camera Adapter using Apple Music (portable).
  2. USB from RPi4 using Roon on Nucleus (at home).
  3. USB from Dell XPS 15 (Windows 10) using Roon on Dell (away from home).
  4. iPad Mini 4 and iPad 8th Generation with Apple Camera Adapter using Apple Music (away from home).

Is there any software I need to install on the Dell or is it a simple matter of setting up in Roon? Thanks.

EDIT: Option 3 above was getting noise from my Dell USB, so I purchased another RPi4 for this scenario.

Hi @Jim_F ,

I believe that you’ll need a Windows driver for the Mojo 2 on the Dell. This is the download link:

OK, thanks. I wasn’t sure if that was required or just for 768 Hz files, which I will never fool with. Anyway, I just installed it. Thanks.

Looking at the dimensions of this thing (should arrive in 2 days), it seems too thick to attach to a cell phone and put in your pants pocket. A large jacket pocket would probably work. So, for portable use, it seems to me the solution is to put iPhone in one pocket, Mojo in your other pocket, and connect with a short USB A to USB C cable which I have (with Apple Camera Adapter, of course). Then, it’s a matter of a wired connection from Mojo to headphones. I have a Moon Audio Silver Dragon Portable for that.

While I bought it mostly for use at the mother-in-law’s house, portability doesn’t seem that difficult, just not as easy as the Dragonfly. I guess it will depend on the SQ to determine if it’s worth the bother.

Just get a very big coat like Darko said on his trip to Portugal !

Yes! That is exactly what I use.

Received my Mojo 2 this morning. It sounds really good with Roon. I just plugged it into my ethernet connected RPi4 and Focal Clear headphones and powered it up. I doubt I will even fool with the EQ and I don’t use crossfeed. I’ll try using it with my laptop and iPhone later, but too busy listening to Roon for now. It’s going to be perfect for using at my mother-in-law’s house.

OK, this works well, with Apple Music…

And here, using Roon core on the laptop…(Works with Audirvana also)

Yesterday I received from Amazon a 6 foot USB C to micro USB cable for power and a 6 foot USB A to USB C cable for audio. I think I paid around US $10 each for the cables.

I have a link to the Mojo 2 Manual on my desktop, so it’s one click away.

By the way, my balls don’t rattle.

EDIT: I was wrong. My balls do rattle if I shake my “Mojo.”

Jim, could you please try connecting it to your iPhone 13 with just a lightning to usb c or micro cable? Curious if it works without the CCK.

Cheers.

I tried it with iPhone 11 Pro Max and it doesn’t work without the camera adapter.

Tried my Mojo 1 with the X, SE, 12 and works just fine with only a standard micro usb to lightning. Can’t say the same for my 13 Pro.

Complained to apple and they said it should work without the CCK.

The’ve pulled logs off my 13 and SE to compare and said to give them some time to figure out the issue.

I have to say this thing sounds great. I may never go back to my Meridian Prime. Even playing MQA with just the Roon decoding.

A possible problem…my Roon Nucleus has crashed 3 times in the last 24 hours. I thought maybe because I was upsampling from 44.1 and 48 to 705.6 and 768, but the last time was with no upsampling. So, to determine if the problem has anything to do with the Mojo 2, I am now switched back to my Meridian Prime.

EDIT: This issue had nothing to do with the Mojo 2 and was resolved with a restore of a 4 day old Roon backup.

I’ve been back on the Mojo 2 for a little over an hour. This sounds so good, I don’t know how to describe it other than it’s more vivid. It reminds me of when I had cataract surgery. All the colors were more vivid. Now, all the sounds are more vivid.

You sound as though you’re really enjoying it. I remember the wow factor of the Mojo 1 when I bought one in 2016. I still listen to it most days, enjoy

Got me curious now as the original Mojo is mighty fine already…

I’ve never heard the original one, so I can’t give you any comparison. This is my first experience with any Chord product.

Chord are as close as I come to fanboydom but they are quirkily designed products. I personally like the glowy marble thing but it’s far from universal. The supporting software, e.g. GoFigure streaming control app, is pretty infuriating, previous versions were borderline unusable.

I’ve promised to stick with my Mojo 1 but I’m persuading myself that a second device may be handy…

£450 is a bargain. I must admit, I’m tempted too…

I have made peace with the app, just switch poly between sd card (shuffle playlist)and Roon it works for that.
I have mk1 and love it.

Bonus, the challenge of controlling EQ via marbles has crossword replacement potential…
