Nucleus unauthorized to connect to MacBook library using SMB (ref#UN3YJ0)

How can we help?

· I'm having trouble adding music to my library

Describe the issue

Cannot connect the Nucleus to my library on my MacBook. smb settings are correct. Nucleus states: unauthorised

Describe your network setup

Router is a Huawei OptiXstar EG8147X6-10
Nucleus is connected via a Silent Angel Bonn N8 switch directly to the router

Welcome, Christian!

Have you ever been able to connect to your Nucleus?

Has anything changed in your setup?

Hi Mark,

thanks for your message.

I have now tried several times to get the Nucleus connected to my MacBook. From Nucleus to MacBook smb connection does not work. I can’t add the folder to my Roon. Whereas I can connect the internal Roon harddisk (1TB) directly to my MacBook via: smb://NUCLEUS/Data/Storage/InternalStorage

The other way, to connect Roon via smb://192.168.0.47 to the MacBook does not work. It tells me: unauthorised. Tried several things, different paths, etc…

The MacBokk is directly connected to my Ethernet switch (Silent Angel Bonn N8), as the Nucleus is.

Kind regards

Christian

Hi @Christian_Jacobi,
Thanks for reaching out to us about this issue. The best way to diagnose this is to share a set of logs from your Nucleus. Can you please use the directions found here and send over a set of logs to our File Uploader?

Since you received an unauthorized message can you ensure that permission is set to “Read & Write” on the folder you are sharing? @Formula also makes a good suggestion please try that as well.

Christian,

Helpers are beginning to gather…

I’d still be interested to know whether you have ever got the connection you want to work; if so, then what may have changed?

I remember finding this all very tricky when I got my Nucleus almost a year ago.

May I first suggest you read through this thread. It’s long but has a lot of actual solutions.
… … …

If I remember correctly, I had the same issue… in white on red, isn’t it, that unauthorized message?

I may be wrong, but I think it’s worth trying to work on the assumption that it is actually connecting - but that the directory it’s connecting to has not been authorized (for ‘you’).

In my case, Roon shows this:

and that works. How close to that can you get?

In other words, you:
1 - set it up in System Settings > General > Sharing all the way to the parent folder in question

2 - make sure your Options (top right of that dialogue) looks like this - that’s right with Windows Sharing:

Can you get anywhere close to that, Christian?
