Power Amp plug into wall or Power conditioner

Out of my outlet box I am using self-built 10/3 shielded mains cables with SoniQuest gold plated connectors. Their common grounded shields are at the outlet box and floating at the equipment end.

My 2 cents: if the line coming in is dedicated to the amp, you probably don’t need a power conditioner. Having a cheap power conditioner may take some headroom from the amp. That being said, there are line dirtiness testers you can use to tell if you actually have a dirty power problem.

Apologies if someone already said this - I haven’t read the whole thread.

I’d put a twist on the ā€˜need’ aspect (other than do we really need any of this stuff :grinning:)

My two PS Audio regenerators did/do improve the sound, before and after the dedicated mains being installed

However, the improvement given by the dedicated mains is more significant than the regenerators

Bearing in mind the relative costs eg thousands for the regenerators and low hundreds (or less) for the mains - the latter offers far better sound/pound value - and would have been an obvious priority for me under different circumstances

I’ll go further in stating that if I’d started with the mains, I probably wouldn’t have gone down the regen route at all as I think the money would have been better spent elsewhere

This should be an enlightening must read for everyone before undertaking High-end AC delivery optimizations.
Maybe it yields a better price/performance ratio to divert funds into room acoustics treatments and/or better speakers…

Hilarious
My PS Audio regen is sposed to arrive today

I hadn’t seen that one! Thanks.

Hoho :grinning:
But I wouldn’t panic; as I said :point_up_2:up there somewhere, they do work - to the point where I simply didn’t enjoy my main system without the P5 - in fact I didn’t listen to it for a month

It sounded really flat, no foot tapping energy and the soundstage was shallower

I think you’re covered by PS’ returns policy anyway?

If you do keep it, I’d consider doing the mains as well, assuming you haven’t already…

…and of course the best sound/pound (bang/buck, if you prefer) upgrade is simple room positioning of speakers and listening position

I’m amazed at the wonderful kit I see on here that’s hamstrung by how it’s placed

To the domestic bliss/practicality argument I say
PTFE! sliders - they’re really cheap and effective. A coin will stop any spikes penetrating them

When I had a smaller listening room, I’d slide my speakers out for serious listening and back again when done - dead easy

Listening for 1st time now.
Very pleased
Definitely not sending back

Consider the dedicated mains as well, if you can

PS recommend it and, in my experience, it augments what the regen does

Thanks definitely planning that
