Problem with Roon and Nucleus + tracks loading slowly

Could you explain a bit more?
I have a single storage location with multiple folders within a single folder
It imports fine. It does not function well at all.
Are you saying you have multiple storage locations?
For Example:
Should I create like 7 storage locations with Roon within my main file?
Thank you

Just to try to understand what you are asking.

I have an iMac.
You want me to make that the core and then try and use my 143000 tracks on my NAS and see if it functions correctly?

How big is the library you are having issues with?.

Personally I keep all music local to the core. Iā€™d get a usb hard drive from western digital. 18tb is about 260 usd. Format it exFat. Copy the music from the slow location to it. Disable the original location under settings/storage and then plug the drive to the core and see if it is faster.

Even if it doesnā€™t make a difference you will.have made a backup.

THanks-
When I started having these issuesI did load all my files onto an external drive 18TB ExFAT FORMAT and I connected that to my Nucleus +. It ended up having issues. Track would stop playing and a message saying ā€œtrack loading error this may indicate a hardware issueā€ or something to that effect. So i moved my library back to my NAS and continued having the same issues.
I recall initially the connected HD was somewhat free of these issues though i dont think it was as fast or as responsive as it currently is on my NAS with the smaller library.

I know 143,000 tracks is a lot but I suspect there are folks that have much larger libraries and use ROON.
I think it significant when i cut my library from 143,000 tracks to the current 7,000 tracks things work great.

this certainly something i could live with but curiously since creating a smaller database the art work displayed with many of the albums is screwed up. Its more curious that it will display artwork from an album that was on my larger library but not in my smaller library.

for instance it will display artwork from a 2003 Phish concert on a 2019 concert when Have no 2003 folders in my current database. But like I said if things functioned OK I could deal with this weirdness

Please disable the storage of \NUCLEUSPLUS\Data\Storage\InternalStorage, and then add a folder as a music library (you create more folders in the InternalStorage file, and separate the music files into folders), this sets multiple files library will do.

Appreciate you taking the time but I donā€™t get it

Thank you
I had thought thatā€™s what you meant
Will it list all tracks from all those storage locations at once?

what do you think the max number of tracks should be in each folder?

I created 6 different storage locations with a total of about 30,000 tracks.
It works better but still takes about seconds to begin playing music once a song is selected.
I can only imagine this getting worse by adding more tracks

I have about 5t of music files and now itā€™s working fine through 6 folders. After the file import is complete and the background analysis is complete, make a backup before starting to play music. I feel like Iā€™m back to version 1.8, stable but fast.

Iā€™m envious
Iā€™ve been struggling with this so long I have forgotten how quick itā€™s supposed to be
Got a reminder when I created a test database of 8000 tracks. It worked great
But something happens when my library heads over 10000 tracks.
Once that happens everything slows down when navigating the controller and trying to get music to play.
With 8000 tracks things instant now takes about 30 sec for music to begin to play once track selected.

Maybe my NAS needs to memory ?
Currently has 8 GB

What counters that idea is when I use an external HD to my Nucleus I get track loading errors

Itā€™s maddening to say the least

What do the roonserver logs show for this? Get a cheap 1 tb drive and try it out with the test 8000 tracks and see if it shows the same errors. It could be that specific drive is having issues.

Not sure what the server logs say.
I should try another drive. I assumed it was the drive but when I connect it to my iMac It works fine.
Do you think that proves no issues with the HD ?
Or it could work fine but on IMAC but have problem with Nucleus?
Iā€™d love it if I could just get this thing to work in the most basic fashion it was designed for.

While we are on the subject (or at least I am)
Can u recommend any particular 15-18 TB external drive?
Just wish they made SSD drives that large
Thx

I sent some info to Roon awhile back at their request but donā€™t recall hearing what they showed.

Itā€™s clear once my number of tracks begins to approach 15,000 tracks performance begins to suffer ā€¦at 143000 itā€™s basically unusable (2 or 3 mins to get music to start playing, endless time waiting for tracks or artists to load)

So this apparent connection to Library volumes.

Does that rule out the network and steer it towards a hardware problemā€¦my nucleus+, the external drive, or does my NAS need more memory?

Maddening cause I know other users have much bigger libraries

Appreciate your input

This is how I do it, first reset the database, and then close the analysis in the database after logging in, a total of 6 files are stored, when the first folder is imported, other folders are disabled, and after the first import is completed, disable The first one, then start the second folder to import the second folder, disable the second one after completion, and then the sixth one, when the sixth one is completed, enable all six folders to store, let roon Make a backup after loading all the files. After the backup is done, turn on the analysis in the database and let roon analyze all the files. After the analysis is completed, back up again. After the backup is complete, you can start listening to music. I found that when more than 15,000 pieces of music in the folder are imported, the post-production is very slow, and the speed within 10,000 pieces is really fast.

Thank you for taking the time to write all that out. I appreciate it. When I get some time Iā€™ll try and follow that.
At the same time if this is truly necessary it undermines what Roon purports to be as a product
I paid a decent amount of $$$$$ for a nucleus+ which I believe is prescribed for users with over 100000 tracks.
I canā€™t believe all users with over 100,000 tracks have to resort to what you have laid out to just get Roon to function as advertised. I do not doubt your experience but if users were struggling like I am related to 143,000 tracks in a single database folder then this board would be lit up with complaints
Iā€™m going to try your suggestion because I have little other path out of this. Getting Roon support is a slow process.
But I just cannot imagine the product cannot actually handle what it is advertised to do
Thank you again for all your input

Hey @thomas_clark1,

After reviewing your Nucleus diagnostics again, we were able to find a good amount of corrupt media errors that could potentially be playing a role in the overall slowness of your core.

If possible, could you please share a screenshot of : Settings -> Library -> Skipped files ?

Thanks :+1:
