Well, thank you for bearing with me. I’m very lucky you are so kind and dedicated to help total strangers.
I have tried to save a copy of the Database folder (found under RoonServer > RoonServer).
However, there are a number of LOCK unix files which I cannot copy. For example, one is at: RoonServer/RoonServer/Database/Core/74873555da6f4e8b92e5fa4a47ac76ae/broker_4.db
I have saved all files except for those LOCK files…
Right, yes, that’s not a backup. Backups are created and saved via this process:
Oops. OK, done now following the instructions under “On-demand backups” at the page you pointed to. Thanks!
OK. You are safe to go into Synology Package Manager and remove Java and Minimserver.
Then you can go in and update to DSM 7. We will go from there.
Done! Looks beautiful.
Please note though that I need to catch a train in one hour. So if some operations take longer than that, I might have to postpone for a few days.
Thanks!
Ok. Enjoy your trip. Safe travels.
When you are back:
In Package Manager, uninstall your old Roon package that is for DSM 6.
Go to Synology DSM7 – RoonOnNAS and download the installer to your computer (scroll down that page to see it).
In Package Center, you will have to use the Manual Install button at the top right:
…from there, it will ask you to locate the package you downloaded above onto your computer. Proceed from there, following the installation prompts carefully to point to the right things (like the folder where your music resides).
Once that’s done, you can try again to install ffmpeg:
Binaries of ffmpeg can be downloaded from JohnVanSickles website. You’ll need the amd64 version for Roon Server on the diskstation.
Extract the tar.xz archive (if you need guidance doing that, let us know here in the forums) and copy the ffmpeg from the extracted files folder into:
<< Your selected database location >> / RoonOnNAS / bin
Then restart Roon Server in the Package Center.
After that, you can let us all know you got that far and we (forum users or Roon support) can walk you through restoring your Roon database backup, unless you decide you don’t want to. Let us know.
Many many thanks @DDPS for all of your help and guidance so far! And equally, thank you for sticking with it and for your patience @Bernard_Forgues - let us know how the above goes when you’re able to.
Key info here - thanks again for sharing @DDPS!
Hi @Bernard_Forgues,
We’d like to check in after some time has passed to prevent this thread from automatically closing due to inactivity.
Have you encountered these playback symptoms since updating the codecs? We can walk through the final steps (restoring a Backup or starting a fresh RoonServer database as necessary) if you’re ready.
Alternatively, we can allow this thread to auto-close if you’re all set and no longer require assistance. We’ll watch for your response. Thanks!

@DDPS Many, many thanks again for your fantastic help solving my issue with AAC files not working.
I have followed your advice at Records stuck at 0:00 across multiple devices in Roon (ref#6IMLHU) - #47 by DDPS and am super happy to report it works!
Apologies for not thanking you in that thread: it was closed before I had a chance to travel back home.
You kindly offered to guide me into restoring my database. That would be lovely, because the new one has lost some info (mostly from rare albums, like cover pictures I had added manually).
Also, if you have a ko-fi account or something where I could express my gratitude, please let me know.
I’ve merged so all the history and feedback is together.
