Upgrade went smooth. No issues. RPi4
thanks!
Dear @spockfish:
I am still experiencing reduced volume from Plexamp in RoPieeeXL 2024.01.1. I am using a Pi Zero 2 W with the Apple USB-C to 3.5 mm Headphone Jack Adapter. I had had this problem with a previous version of RoPieeeXL, but it disappeared in RoPieeeXL 2023.9.0, only to return after I updated to RoPieeeXL 2023.11 (1176). I posted about my trouble in December, but you may not have seen it. Here is a link to the post.
Could the update to Plexamp component be causing the trouble?
Thanks so much for taking the time to help me.
Best regards,
RU
I still don’t have any warning about the update… How and where it will be visible?
EDIT: I got it… all was ok!
Hello,
@spockfish , which HQPlayer NAA Network Audio Daemon is now in the latest Ropieee 2024.01?
The NAA 4.6.0 ?
Thanks and gratefull for your amazing job
Yes, it is 4.6.0
Grazie Stefano, there is a way to see it? i know is not possible connect to Ropieee by ssh anymore.
Ok thanks. i have my computer with embedded in another room, and without screen.
I tried many times to connect to embedded by ssh, but without luck. There is a way to connect to Embedded computer? Of course with browser for the configuration, from client, and with app HQPD from mobile/ipad.
Do you know if its possible to connet to Embedded by ssh?
Yes, it’s possible but you need first to define a new user and the password
.
Of course you need a display and a keyboard to do this task:
login as root, no password
type
useradd new-user
enter
then type
passwd new-user
enter twice the password (as requested)
That’s it
Now you can ssh to HPplayer embedded
i remember from last time reported … didn’t see any obvious issues with the settings you described, so at this point recommend sending feedback (logs) for review … go to ropieee/advanced, hit the “send feedback” button, post feedback code here … these logs should help spockfish identify what’s causing the problem
Good afternoon Harry @spockfish . I am experiencing an interesting problem: half of my units have updated and half are evidently failing the upgrade process (because they stay on the old version). I have tried a few rounds with no success.
I just sent feedback from the “KitchenPi” after another update try.

I presume I just need to reflash these units? For clarity, I did not reflash earlier in the week.
Hi Nathan,
What’s the history of this unit? Do you have an idea when you originally installed it?
I can’t see anything before november, so could that be the case?
I know what’s going on (and why it is not updating), but I can’t figure out yet the ‘why’.
So if you mind waiting a bit with a reflash…
Thanks
I got the update notice for 2024.01.1 yesterday and applied it without reflashing. Since doing so, using my unit with mConnect + Qobuz on many albums when I queue them up it just plays the first five seconds or so of a track and stops. Raspberry Pi 3b+ and a Pi2Designs Pi2AES hat. No issues with the prior 2023.11 release.
Does 2024.01.1 require a reflash still? Or is there a way to downgrade back to the former release?
Harry, thanks for looking at it.
My best guess is that this unit (and the others that are stuck) was flashed in early 2022 at the generational change of RoPieee (Am I remembering the timing correctly?) My pattern of updates is always within a day or two, as you might assume, so sequential.
I have both Pi3 and Pi4 stuck, with Pi3 displays as well.
Ok I did some troubleshooting. I’m located near Boston, MA, USA.
- Rebooted cable modem, Asus router, and Pi streamer - no change. Confirmed latest version of mConnect installed.
- Enabled multicast streaming on my Asus router - no change. Reverted.
- Changed DNS settings from ISP-provided to both Cloudflare and Google (with router and device reboots between each setting change) - no change. My ISP DNS settings typically have been fastest for me when testing, and was the case again today.
- Reflashed RopieeeXL to 2023.11 [1168] build from the image file I had downloaded a couple months ago. Reconfigured device with same settings. Tried again and it worked perfectly the first time.
Not sure what the deal is. But guess I’ll stick with the pre-hotfix 2023.11 RopieeeXL build for now. Edit: feedback sent (047cfe77f1a8c86b)
If anyone wants to try and replicate, the album I was trying is “Grieg - Smetana” by Quatuor Modigliani. New release on Qobuz, looks like 24/192 FLAC. Each track would only play six seconds on the 2024.01 release and then just stop.
Hello Harry, here is the feedback after a “pull the power” reset.

Many thanks.
Ok… we’re getting somewhere.
Can you repeat the procedure?

Ok. What you now need to do is restart the unit once again.
It will not report an update available, but after a few hours a new popup shows up.
If everything goes according to plan you can then upgrade to 2024.01.1
Thanks
