Roon 2.0: From Rumors To Reality

I don’t see that at all. Part of this is because the Qobuz app insists on showing me horrible German reviews because I am in Germany, although my phone language is English. Part of it is that the Qobuz app still doesn’t show me good credits for most of my music, let along crosslinked ones. (Roon often doesn’t either, but at least I can edit and I spent lots of time on it). Or basic stuff like the Qobuz app not distinguishing between release date and original release date, which makes date-based sorting essentially useless. And so on, don’t get me started  Roon is still indispensable for me and I don’t see this changing.

When do we get the Roon 2.0 update beta?

Not a word from staff

Eric, the sign-up for Roon 2.0 testing closed last week. Did you request to participate, or are you asking when 2.0 will release?

Hyped Roon release - when?

You know, the one you’ve been hyping but vague about on Facebook. I assume it’s a software release.

When it’s ready?

If they just started beta testing it, hopefully several months. No rush job, or trash beta work. Dump the bugs upfront. Get as much right as possible before it’s released to the general use population.

I don’t like being utlilized as a beta tester unless I volunteer to be a beta tester.

Roon 1.8 was a big UI makeover so I don’t see that happening again so soon. Very unlikely IMHO.

I doubt Roon will give any specific timelines until they are very close to releasing it. That is the previous history. They have also kept the details of what’s included until very close to release time.

We know they are just starting widespread beta testing from the link posted above.

A lot will depend on what happens with that. If most of the 1.4K who clicked on the links there signed up the testing should be quite extensive and unless things are already in good shape it might take quite a while.

However given that Roon have already started with the teasers I’m sure they think they are not far off and that it’s more weeks than months away. But that’s just my guess.

No software company “volunteers” beta testers without their consent.

Hope there will be an alternative to Tidal…Qobuz still not available in Canada

Thanks , weeks would be cool, months ok, years the opposite… can’t wait to get my hands on it :kissing_heart:

There could be but that on its own would not be sufficient for a 2.0 designation. In the past this has only merited a 0.1 increase so I think 2.0 must be more than just that.

You must not have caught my sarcasm.

When new software is rolled out to the general use population, and it is not sufficiently beta tested, YOU are the beta tester who has to report bugs, errors, and problems.

How am i going to unplug and restart my nucleus every time i want to use Roon if i am on my mobile not at home?

Well, we’re all testers, aren’t we? Just not ‘beta’.

You have a problem that needs sorting out why did you not respond to Jamie in this support thread that Carl helped you set up?

I can understand your frustration but their is no value in taking swipes like this on future releases if you don’t followup and get your problems sorted out.

honestly, not sure the video helps any.

Here’s an idea.

What if Roon 2.0 uses the cloud to give you synchronisation of the Roon database between multiple copies of Roon Server, AND they are providing a cut-down server that runs on mobile devices? That would keep your second home up to date and allow you to use Roon from a phone when away. Any local files not present on each server would be filtered out, so you could download some of your files to your phone, as space permits.

A bit like Dropbox but just for the Roon database.

In the absence of objective measures of software quality, which as an end-user you are unlikely to have, this is largely a matter of opinion.
