Roon Build 1400+ : Issues with Airplay Connection to Certain Endpoints [Resolved with Build 1413]

thank you. I re-enabled my device and got some sound but it was horrible garbled bits of song, then started to skip songs on its own, then silence. Progress bar at bottom shows nothing is playing but little icon next to song that looks like a bar graph moves as if something is playing.

Grrrrr I hate updates.

Pete

Thanks for link to similar situations. I would say it is via airplay, but I also have same issue with physical connections. It sounds like this is affecting a lot of folks. What I have not seen is a solution. I guess I keep checking back.

Hi Ivan, everyone has the same issue not able to play music on Eversolo DMP-A8, RoonSerer is not working on both iOS and Windows. Please help! -Choon

I can confirm that the latest version did not fix this issue! All my HomePods are unable to stream Roon via airplay.

This just worked for me. Will keep testing it.

Further to this, my B&W A5 is now working with Roon again. HomePods are not, however.

If you are using a HifiBerry, I’m assuming it’s attached to a Pi or similar. Is there a reason not to install Roon Bridge on it instead of relying on Airplay?

Jim_F: thank you so much, this worked, Roon is back!!

Describe the issue

Running Roon 2 Build 1407 on a PC. I have 5 end points, one is Roon Ready (Cambridge Evo 75) another (AudioPro) connects via Chromecast - no problem with either of these. The remaining 3 are AirPlay devices, all different models, and from different manufacturers. In the last month all 3 have developed the same problem (after 3 years of faultless Roon service): when I try to playback from either a streaming source or a local file via Roon, everything looks as though it is connected and the track shows as playing, but it doesn't play and there is no progress on the progress bar, even after a minute or more. However, if I fast forward slightly by shifting the button along the progress bar (a "jump start"), the track will play. This is only a problem with playback via Roon. If I stream a track to any of these devices directly, e.g. from Spotify Connect or Qobuz, playback starts immediately. I have done the obvious of power cycling everything and WiFi reconnection, but the problem remains. Any ideas ?

Describe the issue

Roon on Mac via Airplay to Marantz MCR - 611. Press play nothing happens so I have to move the slider a fraction and then the track plays perfectly and moves on to the next track in the album list or Roon radio.

Describe your network setup

Roon Server on iMac Intel Core i7 32GB Memory, MacOS Ventura version 13.6.6

I’ve merged your support request into the existing thread on this issue. Unfortunately, the fix that was delivered in build 1407 appears to be not working for some, so Roon Labs will be still working on this issue.

problem is back 45 minutes later - garbled strident sound with songs skipping then silence.

I typically group the HiFiBerry with other Airplay nodes.

@Steam_Punque
I might be wrong (haven’t tried) but you could possibly expose a Roon bridge service on it separately to Airplay, so that you could at least listen on that device (bridge), but without the airplay group. Might help make do for now.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I’m good; the HiFiBerry serves the garage.

I can prod my primary Airplay node into playing Roon either via an inelegant series of start / stop stream clicks or fiddling with the track scroll bar.

Hello @Peter_Letourneau ,

Welcome to the Roon forum. Can you let us know, does the issue only impact your Airplay zones? If so, we are currently looking into an issue in this area:

I think i have a better workaround then the slide.
in the → settings → general → steaming content prefernce - there is a option how to treat mqa.

I had it on ā€œprefer anything else over mqaā€™ā€, then the airplay probem occur.
When set to 'ā€œ'prefer mqa over everythingā€, the problem looks to disapear.

it works also for local mp3 and streaming (qobuz, i use there also mp3), so not realy related to mqa files.

on my yamaha reciever this works when playing. But when no music is playing, it dont start automaticly. The first time I must chose play. Once some music is played, all the music works…

I am also having problems streaming with AirPlay to my Naim units. Either nothing plays or I get loud shrieking noises and then silence.

Does any of this happen with non-AirPlay zones?

I’m in a similar situation. It started with my Apple Play enabled receiver stopping playing after about one minute. Then not playing at all. Then my wiim 2 devices stopped playing. They all show up on my list. I disabled them all and re enabled them this did not help. Updated firmware on my receiver. No help. The music shows as playing but the time bar does not move from zero. Sometimes they work fine. A work around that sometimes works is to play the music to my phone(which seems fine for now), and then swap to the endpoint that I want. This has all occurred since the latest update.
My roon core is running on a 2019 iMac, OS is up to date and has not been updated during the time of this issue occuring.
I have some Chromecast endpoints that do not seem to be affected.
I hope this can get fixed now that roon has more time and resources to dedicate to the software. After joining forces with Harman.
