I tested it only briefly so it’s a preliminary assessment (for the affected fields I’ll attach a screenshot later). When I’m bored enough (happens easily) I will dig into it some more and maybe open a support issue. I did also stumble about some character encoding problems with export so it’s worth the time.
Update: Screenshot - left: original metadata / right: roon exported
Interestingly that Roon doesn’t seem to care for total count related tags was raised recently here:
For Flac (vorbis comments) SongKong uses DISCNUMBER to store the disc number and DISCTOTAL to store the number of discs, and this is the same as other tools (such as MusicBrainz Picard) uses.
But I understand that Roon expects total discs to be stored as part of the DISCNUMBER field e.g ‘01/03’ rather than DISCNUMBER = 01, DISCTOTAL = 03. Could I request that Roon would look for DISCTOTAL if DISCNUMBER only uses xx format rather than xx/yy format ?
I think using two different fields rather tha…
So it’s a consistent behaviour.
Update 2: for the character encoding issue there’s already a ticket open it seems:
Hi! I’m on Windows 10, running Roon 1.5 build 323. When I export an album with non-ASCII characters in the metadata, those non-ASCII characters show up correctly in the filename, but they are mangled in the tags.
For example, when I export the album Gagner L’argent Français by Mamani Keïta, which I have in ALAC, the filename shows up correctly, but the tags show up like this:
[Capture]
It’s definitely trying to use Roon metadata for the mangled tags, because the original ALAC file in my lib…
Update 3:
While doing some testing on which tags and what tag contents get exported I noticed that Roon removes count (TOTAL) tags for PART and TRACK:
Original metadata (mediainfo output):
