Glad you got your update, but that is just good solid advice.
Too many people in these forums have been burned buying devices under a promise of Roon Ready that either took forever to get it or sometimes never got it at all
All good then.
I thought as you posted the Google Form to whitelist the Pro, youād have done so.
Iām thinking about getting a 2nd WiiM Pro for a set of powered speakers that are currently connected to a Sonos Connect (analog output only) so that I can group that room with my 1st WiiM Pro setup. Does anyone know if there would be much of a difference in audio quality when connecting the powered speakers via Sonos in Roon vs. directly to a WiiM Pro instead now that its a Roon Ready endpoint? Just wondering if itās worth doing before spending the money (thereās an upcoming 20% off amazon deal on 7/12 for those that may not be aware - mark your calendars!). Thanks.
Hi Timmo good information there about the sale. I will check if that is available in the UK
How are you planning to plug the WIIM into the speakers, will it be Aux out?
The WIIM is not considered to have a very good DAC, so maybe use Coaxial or Toslink to a small DAC first and then I imagine things will be great (though they could also be great direct to your speakers TBH)
Hopefully UK gets the same deal (our Prime Days are 7/11-12 here in the US).
The connection would be WiiM Aux out to Analog input on speakers (no digital inputs available - they are AudioEngine A5+ which I still love). WiiM Pro #1 is connected via SPDIF out to my Denon receiver. Curious if Roon Ready endpoint to my A5+ speakers (via new WiiM Pro #2) would be noticeable vs. using the existing Sonos Connect aux output to those same speakers (using Sonos as endpoint instead of AirPlay via Roon). With the sale Iāll probably just do it anyways ā¦ but curious if anyone has done any kind of compare like this (Sonos endpoint vs. Roon Ready endpoint).
Good idea on DACs ā¦ I have been staying away from them all this time but at some point Iāll probably dive into them for some of my gear. I know that will become a big rabbit hole
Hi Timmo,
not quit the same I guess, but I changed a Sonos Aux output into active Beolab Pentaās (which I still loveā¦) into a Rbpi with Hifiberry DAC hat as Roon endpoint. It made grouping possible, but also the SQ didnāt suffer at all. Major advantage for me was the ācontrolsā over the setup: completely Roon-based is my preferred way - I have changed all setups through the house in Roon-based endpoints via Roon bridge capable devices or Roon tested equipment.
Iām a happy camper nowā¦
In thinking about this more, my speakers have 2 analog inputs, so I can really keep both the Sonos Connect and the new WiiM Pro connected to get the both of best worlds (depending on which system I want to use). Sonos can be finicky at times with the groupings when using Roon. So nice to finally have a really affordable Roon endpoint option now.
I read SMSL SU-1 measures and sounds great for its 79 bucks.
Also Topping has some sub 100 candy (E30II lite).
It does sound very good with my WiiM Pro -even if you donāt care about the reliable MQA decodingā¦
Also finally got update on 2 Wiim Proās. No more Chromecast or Apple Airplay needed.
Desktop WiMM Pro, coax output to Schitt Audio Modt+, and Magni+, made in CA and Texas, Audience 1 Spekers, Magni+ handles speakers and headphones great. 2nd Pro optical output to Samsung Sound bar ARC input/output to LG Tv, improved sound with Wiim Pro dac.
For those with both the WiiM Remote and using Roon on the WiiM Pro, does the remote work okay to skip, pause, etc. with all functions when streaming via Roon to WiiM Pro? I havenāt bought the WiiM Remote yet and wondering if itās worth getting (so that I donāt have to keep getting my phone or tablet to perform these functions when listening). Thanks.
I donāt have the remote, but your post inspired me to turn the touch controls back on. Pause/play works with Roon. I have the volume disabled, so those two do nothing. Iām not sure whatās feasible with the presets button, if anything. Maybe thatās a Spotify thing only?
Anyhow, the pause/play functionality will be nice. I have a WiiM pro in a little headphone listening station, so it is easy to reach.
Would also be good to know if this works for grouped devices in Roon. I have 2 WiiM Pros grouped for my 2 sets of outdoor speakers.
I do have the WiiM Remote. It works reasonably well. Skip and mute work as expected. With play/pause Iāve found that if I wait more than a few minutes it doesnāt seem to start playing again and I need to go to the Roon app to start the music. I need to play around with that some more to figure out whatās going on. Overall, I think with worthwhile to have. Works great for muting radio stations which I like to listen to when Iām working. Iāve never tried it with grouped devices so I canāt comment on that.
Should clarify, using Wiim Pro to play ROON through Samsung Soundbar and sub. Not bad sound
Roon keeps losing the Wiim as an audio zone
After about 20 mins the Wiim disappears
A Wiim reboot of Roon on / off seems to fix it
I have sent crash reports to Wiim.
Reminder for US folks that the Amazon deal for WiiM Pro is up now ā¦ got 20% off. Pro Tip: Buy the WiiM Pro and Voice Remote combo for just an extra $8
Also down to Ā£119 in the Amazon UK Prime sale as well.
Canāt say how I know
Now, the only thing missing from the WiiM Pro is a USB out for a USB DAC.
