Do you have IPv6 enabled? If so, can you temporarily disable it and see if your issue persists? —> IPv6 was already disabled in the router!
I have more to say on reproducing this issue:
Go to Artists.
Use filter to narrow down to one artist, or scroll to the desired Artist.
Click the artist.
Click an album from the library (I used a local album).
Play the album.
Minimise the Roon Remote on the iPad, then let the iPad sleep, or turn it off.
After some time come back and turn on iPad and open Roon Remote. At this point it will be clear if the issue will happen if a spinning circle is shown and “Waiting for your Roon Server” message, even if it is shown very briefly, that means the problem will happen.
Click Back arrow twice to go back to the Artists screen.
The Artists screen looks like the screenshot from my first post and it is completely broken - nothing can be done on the Artists screen.
Hi @benjamin - I believe I provided all requested info. Please look into this issue.
Edit: I thought I will mention the versions I am running:
Mac mini (Roon Server) is on macOS Monterey 12.7.1
iPad is on iPadOS 17.1.1
iPhone is on iOS 17.1.1
Question: should I be upgrading my Mac mini to later macOS? Will it make a difference? Basically I do not like the newer versions of macOS, and stayed on Monterey.
Having same issues iPhone 13 latest iOS installed. Had the unresponsive stuff way before this build its been around a while i put in a ticket for it no answer. Put in another today as its now worse on latest build.
Can you share a screenshot of your Roon Settings>Extentions? From your account information, there appears to be at least 1 extension related to display that I’m curious about.
Do you have an active lastfm account?
Is your server device hardwired to your primary router? If not, this would be a good next step to test.
Let’s also refresh your database to ensure the slate is clean while we continue to troubleshoot:
My Server is hardwired to the main router via a gigabit switch. I already stated that above in the thread:
I already reinstalled everything 2 days ago as I stated here.
I did not restore from backup. I did:
Reinstall macOS
Reinstall Roon Server
Reinstall Roon Remote on all iOS devices.
Benjamin, I am not exactly sure you read the entirety of this thread, and frankly I am disappointed.
It has already been 5 days since I logged this, and all that has been done is going back and forth.
Can you please, in all honesty, review the info provided, rather than copy/paste pre-made actions that I have already taken in due diligence in the hopes to resolve the issue myself.
@benjamin Alright, I wired the Roon Server directly to the main router, and not through the switch, then rebooted the Roon Server. Guess what - issue remains, and it is reproduced in the same manner I stated above.
I have the same issue that is stated above but with a nucleus. All has appeared after the latest update. Haven’t had any issues with the nucleus or remote before this update, we are talking 3 years of flawless streaming. Now roon stops working every time I’m do anything on roon remote (iPhone 14 pro, IPad Air 4)
What bothers me most, is that I had a perfectly working setup, nothing else changed other than updating Roon, yet @benjamin from support is suspecting a newtwork issue. I think support shuold do a little better job at reading the entirety of this thread and trying harder to reproduce this issue.
For example, how much does this new version rely on Roon cloud, and what if the latency to Roon servers for users on the other side of the globe is higher than the latency Roon staff have from their labs? Has this been accounted, and does Roon app actually tolerate latency gracefully?
It seems no, as it just bombs out when the iOS device is put to sleep.
This looks to me like an emmergency patch is needed.
I have no mac equipment in my environment at all, remotes are windows or android and my server is x64 linux. Audio endpoints are mostly ropieee with some chromecast too.
All issues started since most recent server update and are affecting the server connection to all components.
This release is very reminiscent of the completely broken release a year or so ago. Perfectly functioning setups broken by a roon server update and then “weird networking” gets blamed.
On the Windows/Mac server where you were running Roon core, you need to start Roon application and follow steps to setup that machine as Roon Server.
Reason - the latest version hides Roon Server app inside Roon app (at least on a Mac).
Once you do that, it all should work.
@support: I haven’t found any steps that mention this at all post-25 release.
Could you please provide approved upgrade procedures?
Not quite. The previous version started and stopped both Roon and RoonServer at the same time. The new version splits that functionality, so you can close the Roon client and KEEP RoonServer running. Or, turn off the RoonServer on that PC and just connect to a different RoonServer, like a ROCK NUC, without the local PC also running a RoonServer.
Sorry you feel this way, but please know there is reason in my requested steps, and am aware of all the information you’ve provided so far.
Yes, this is exactly why testing it hardwired directly to your router was a suggestion. Switches, specifically managed switches do not play well with Roon. This is mentioned in the Network Best Practices KB.
Yes, but this can mean numerous things, as users often mistake the proper steps for performing a full reinstall of Roon. Refreshing the database involves additional steps, hence why it was suggested.
I don’t have any additional information unfortunately - there appear to be display zones tied to your server that would be good to keep disconnected while we continue to troubleshoot.
Unfortunately, your diagnostic report doesn’t show any obvious indications at the issue. Please take note of the specific date and time the next time you experience an issue and we’ll review a fresh report to see if any clues exist.
Lets also please set any assumptions aside, and trust that we’re on the same team, looking for the same solution. Thanks for your continued patience
@benjamin What do you mean refreshing the database? It is not clear in your steps, in the end if I should or should not point Roon to my media folder, let it scan all files, or what?
If I have an empty Roon without my music, this test cannot be performed, as there will be nothing there.
And Benjamin, I already gave specific times, that is the exact time when I provided the screenshots - i.e. I took the screenshots immediately when it happened, numerous times. But we are on the same team, so I will do it again, will note down when it happens and provide times.
Edit: And you could have just checked the post timestamp, right?
My assumptions are set straight, but I am dissapointed that I already provided all you asked for, and I do not see any progress of the issue from your side. Please tell me how I am wrong anout this and what made you think I am assuming things?
When I said that I wiped out my hard disk, reinstalled macOS, reinstalled Roon Server and Remotes, and also mentioned I did not restore from backup - how is this different from the steps you mentioned, what did I miss?
What is display zones? Tied to my server? My Roon Server is connected to NAD T778 via HDMI, and that is all. It always has been before this update and there was no problem.
Please elaborate on display zones.
