Roon search extremely slow - how to fix it? BUILD 1353

Tidal Connect has been available for Naim for ages

Of course if you are happy with the Tidal app and all its limitations, there is little use for Roon in the first place

I’m taking about the Tidal Connect update with Max setting. Avoiding MQA as much as possible. So once that update hits, I’d be willing to give Tidal another try. But I don’t think I could give up roon over the Naim app. Feels too basic, although its search does work great. And it even pulls in user created playlists p, which room doesn’t.

But I really do wish roon fixes its issues. When it’s working right, I prefer its interface and like the star ratings. If I didn’t like it at all, I’d just stop using it and move on.

Ah OK, wasn’t clear and I think you should know  Naim’s updates are easy to miss even if one occasionally opens the Naim app, and don’t happen at all if one never does, like myself.

Yeah, same

But I also not loyal to roon. So if a better solution comes out I’m willing to try it. My only restriction is I have to be able to control from iPad or iPhone and not be hardwired in. Also needs to be lossless, hires as a nice to have. Needs to work on Naim streamer.

If I was willing to just plug in an optical to usb converter directly into my iPad mini, then I’d probably just use Apple Music. But hate the idea of being hardwired and losing some functionality of the streamer like album art and remote controlling playback features.

Sure, but none is on the horizon. Anyway, it’s getting off topic and the search and other current performance issues should be fixed, so that everyone can be happy again

I hope they sort it .
However for the first time ever I am not sure they will. This has been going on months now . So it is obviously not an easy fix.

I love Roon but wish I hadn’t got the nucleus as it ties me to it , and it feels like time to find something else
I will miss Roon , for years it was brilliant, but it’s now just very frustrating. Frustration is the last thing I want when I am relaxing with my music

If you leave Roon, you can install Windows on your Nucleus. That’s my plan if Roon ever goes away. I’ll install Windows, Audirvana, and Apple Music.

I am not good with technology but yes I will have to look into this

I would like to use TIDAL.

You can install and play Tidal and Qobuz on a Windows computer, which your Nucleus would become. Of course, you need to use another computer or device to control it. I’m not sure the best way to do that.

Back on topic, does anyone know how long this problem has been going for? I know search was never perfect as far as fuzzy search, but just these crazy wait times. I’m sure the buy out and the holidays played a part of the slow response from team but seems like it’s been months.

Pretty sure with 2.0.25 that separated the Roon Server in local installs (although I don’t believe this is the root cause) and this would make November 8th the start of the rollout.

I recall because due to the big change I kept an eye out on issues anyway, and also because it was the first staged rollout, which meant that despite the rollout starting on the 8th the big wave of installs happened shortly before Thanksgiving on the 23rd, and hence this was also when a significant number of performance problem reports started to surface, making it feel like ages before Roon support came back. It was all pretty unfortunate.

Maybe some member from the roon team will give use informations about the further plans - here - in this thread

This would be a great help for users.

What a disaster tonight, first hour it works quite fine, but later in the evening a drama. Extreme slow, can’t find albums or tracks. I have 2 times restart the system but no improvement. What is going on ROON ???

You might want to open a separate Support request in the Support category of the forum rather than piggybacking on this old thread. Your issue may not have the same cause.

Please fill out the Support request template with the full details of your Roon and network setup. Thank you.

Yeah, I occasionally get where the whole system seems slow with artist and their discography taking a while to load up but usually pretty stable. But the slow search is consistent. Even did a search on Thin Lizzy and it caused current my music to stop playing. I’ve only had this happen before with The The search.

Another interesting thing is if I start a song thru roon on my home setup but then open ARC and do a search for The The, it will also cause my home music to stop.

Hi everyone,

The team would like to run an A/B test on a few affected systems in this thread (@Iftach_Landau, @Mike_Scheinkman, @Simon_Arnold3 @Womaz in particular). At your convenience, are you able to disable streaming services entirely for the affected RoonServer instance and then reproduce poor performance after entering a search query? Please leave RoonServer running for long enough to capture the event in diagnostics before restarting RoonServer to resolve symptoms. We’ll activate an automatic diagnostic upload and follow up once development and QA can review.

Thank you!

I’ve not had any search issues for a while myself, will have to look back to see what searches caused me issues and see what happens.

I disabled Qobuz and did a search for The The and it took about a minute to bring back this screen.

In general, search is no better with streaming disabled. Some saying can’t connect. Any using The in beginning takes at least 15 seconds. No instant results.

My search has been ok for a few weeks now.
My issue is the iOS app disconnecting all of the time ……but again last 2 days or so this has been less and less

So same issue with the the it’s back again it seems.

Disabled Qobuz and get no error but took a longer time than I would expect given they are in my library.

Enabled Qobuz and still slow then finally retuned but with error.
