C’mon Roon please give evidence your working on this ‘slow search’ issue.
Try to search ‘The XX’. Same ■■■■ as The The. Roon stops playing and no results. Come on Roon…please.
When you say Roon stops playing, do you see the zone go missing at that moment ?
No. The zone keeps visible. It just stops playing during the search of The The or The XX. In the Tidal app this gives no problems. After a few seconds the music starts playing again and I get the message that the search gives no results. This problem is popping up since the 2.0 upgrade. Other search results are sometimes very, very slow. When Roon finds the artist the loading of the discography takes also too much time. I’m using Roon for years. Don’t post much but this ….
The The has failed for me (timed out and finally returned local result’s) for the last couple of months.
The XX on the other hand returns in about 3 seconds
On a positive note, I think they’ve improved their fuzzy search logic. I typed Chirch by accident wanting Church and specifically The Church. Top results was Eric Church but then The Church was #9 on the more results section. Weird thing is Eric Church is shown right after in the #10 spot.
When i type XX instead of The XX searching goes like hell. Very strange. ‘The The’ gives my Roon server the creeps.
FWIW as a data point. (45K tracks in library, about 7K or so local). Using EA, ROCK. Germany. Cloudflare DNS.
I tried several different searches about 14 hours ago. Artists with many and few releases, in and not in library, etc. They all returned results in 2-4 secs.
„The The“ took 15 secs.
„The“ took about 10 secs.
No outright failures triggered.
This is pretty much the same behavior as I always had over the past months
That’s because Roon run the special Suedkiez server’s around the corner from your house. For all the work you put in, I actually feel it even seems to fair to me
My “the the” issues are the same as many here and I still get a time out before returning my local library results. My “The XX” searches are fine. Over the last couple of releases some searches have improved, and overall performance is slightly better on the EA channel.
I have no idea what I’m doing wrong
Searching for “the the” crashed Roon on Sonic Transporter. Neat!
The The is instant in my Naim app. On Qobuz is still instant but need to hit artist tab to see it. Spotify is instant. So really even 2-3 seconds is too slow compared to native apps. And anything over 15 is way too long and beyond that should be considered a fail can say I’m being impatient but just expect performance to be the same as what everything else offers.
Just wait until Roon turn off your personal cloud Roon servers
A few seconds. 31k tracks, latest early access on Ubuntu Server 22.04.3, i7-13700, 32GB RAM, 500GB system SSD, 4TB SSD for local music (1.5GB used). The issue with this bug is that many of us don’t experience it, so there must be a very particular conjunction of factors that triggers it. Those are hard to track down (speaking from several decades in computing with large, complex data).
Is there any public evidence regarding how widespread the issue actually is? I am curious.
In our system, search is slow enough that we avoid using it, which results is a very poor user experience. YMMV and all of that.
My estimate is that there are < 100 reports of this behavior on this board. There are > 100000 Roon users.
I have a different opinion
Only people with technical skills are logged on into this forum and report and waste hours for this bug.
I also know some guys, having the bug without spending time in this forum.
I am certain that only a small part of the Roon users are active here. And even a smaller portion are the vocal ones.
Certainly true. So in case there is a minor issue like with search errors it is safe to assume a higher number of unreported cases.
On the other hand if things go terribly wrong and a software for which one is paying a monthly fee is not usable I would guess that a higher percentage of users facing such problems would be registering here and reporting. Don’t want to downplay the issues but I believe roon team that they have tested everything and the number of critical cases is limited.
As far as my - really minor - search issue has been solved I am hoping for everyone to have their problems resolved as well.
