Well, my attempted making a playlist of the tracks that I hadn’t heard of before that Andrew and Daniel recommended did not amount to a huge playlist. Party I think because of Roon not being that easy to search and because the tracks just were not available on Qobuz, particularly Andrew’s eclectic mix!
Today’s meeting will be at the same time as usual, 3 pm EST. So, crack open a beverage of choice, and join us if you can.
The chats revolve around Roon, other hardware/software audio topics, or just music. If you are having an issue with Roon, or, hardware or network setups, let us know and we will try and help!
Please keep in mind, everyone here is a fellow user like yourself; so this is NOT an official Roon chat.

Sorry I missed it but the better half insisted I spend time shopping with her..
As been in Arkansas and going to see nightranger tonight.
Music I mentioned today:
Nubya Garcia - Odyssey
Vikingur Olaffson - Continuum
Edit: Just to expand upon the Vikungur Olaffson recording. Although it is only an EP of 19 minutes of Bach cantatas it is my pick for Classical recording of 2024 (so far). Olaffson has a long history of playing Bach and has recently demonstrated a deft touch with Romantic material (Debussy and Ramireau). He now brings a Romantic sensibility to Bach, but in a most tasteful way. Every phrase is carefully considered and it brings the pieces alive, to the point where they feel like a conversation between the various lines. I find it absolutely beautiful and rapidly becoming my favourite Bach recording of all time. Highly recommended for active listening, not just background.
Fun show Some of the topics and suggested music is as follows:
Discussion of the New Quad Amp and Pre-amp
Queen I collector’s edition a Remixed version.
Is this the age of the Remix with the new George Harrison “Living in the Material World” remix coming soon.
Van Halen Brothers book and Discussion of things Van Halen, shows, Eddie’s guitars, amps.
Discussion of recent concerts attended. Andy would like to suggest a
“What is the best opening / headline concert you’ve seen”.
I followed that up with a “What is the oddest opening / Headliner pairing you’ve seen.”
My personal response to that was Bob Seger opening for Kiss.
Next week, goth discussion and then in two Capitol Audio Fest. There is a thread here discussing the show so follow along there as well: “Capitol Audio Fest 2024 - Who's Going?”

Sorry I missed it but two highly recommended new releases ( well by myself anyway )
The night the zombies came by the Pixies.
Powernerd by Devin Townsend.
oh… my plans went boom because of user error trying to record something… painful learning something. Appreciate the suggestions all. I need to just sit here and listen for a bit… think I’ll start with Pixies new one… Saw them once… still one of my favorites.

Ryan, we’re going to have to work on your producer skills. Specifically communication regarding recording glitches (the glitches themselves are ubiquitous). It’s never ‘user error’, especially when one is the user involved. Try ‘insufficient attention to human/device interface by the manufacturer’ or something similar.
But more seriously, a lot of recording techniques were the result of happy accidents. As Miles Davis once said about ‘clams’ or wrong notes ‘It’s the note you play afterwards that makes it right or wrong’.
It certainly is, but more grounded in history than Spell. It was written for Billie Holliday. Is Billie Holiday Goth too? I guess we will find out Saturday…
Well as the video Andy put up was saying, that was music that would eventually inspire and lead to Goth as a separate genre. Even before people/bands that would be classified as “proto-goth”.
This 1979 single is often cited as the point where proto-Goth turned Goth proper, and a very fine first single by a band it is:
But my favourite Bauhaus track was their fourth single, released December 1980. By this point Goth is fully formed and this is the best depiction of the genre ever. Fight me:
Then in 1981:
The Birthday Party’s initial impact was on the gothic rock genre. According to New Musical Express , “The Party have been indirectly held responsible for the rise of a visceral new hardcore, ranging from The Sex Gang Children, through Danse Macabre to March Violets.”[20] Rock acts that have cited The Birthday Party as an influence include My Bloody Valentine,[21]Alex Turner,[22] and LCD Soundsystem.[23] In 2006, American label Three One G released Release The Bats: The Birthday Party As Heard Through The Meat Grinder Of Three One G , a compilation featuring covers by various bands, including Daughters, Melt-Banana and Cattle Decapitation.
But before Release The Bats there was this ‘fat little insect’:
