What industrial design Gary.
It’s fascinating just to stare at it
Probably an enormous outlay, but we’re missing the speakers, or do you have a brain implant with connector from your best friend, Elon ?
The budget speakers are now less restricted by budget, tweeters and crossovers upgraded to Seas Beryllium domes and crossover now Mundorf based. I’m not jesting here, but they are really a completely different set of speakers.
To these ears they are very competitive, no matter the adversarys.
Definitely need more pics
With that setup I would try i2s from pi2aes to the Pontus.
Gary, thank you for sharing your wonderful system with us. The only part I share in common with your system is the “CleverClamp” and it does it’s job well. Happy listening.
Just the stock base. There’s normally a lid on it, but I remove it for listening
Yep, I’ve done that, with a decent (but not crazy) HDMI/I2S cable. Didn’t like it. Sounded harsh. Tried all the possible configs on the pontus, and it just wasn’t right. Maybe another cable would make the difference, ahdunno.
AES/EBU connection sounds wonderful tho, so I’ve never sweated it.
If I wanted to chase dragons, I’d probably hunt down a really high-end i2s cable just to test. But I don’t have the patience!
I just received my new TV, yesterday. It’s a Panasonic OLED 65LZ1500 and the picture quality is great! My setup is now completed.
I might add a DSD DAC in the future but for now I’m really enjoying the music and on top of that, I find the association of white in the furniture with white speakers very beautiful to look at.
Mac mini M1 2Tb
Apple TV 4K (2021)
Rotel A14MKII
KEF R5
I just need to do a little bit of cable management.
White speakers look great indeed!
Seems you have your speakers toed-in a bit too much? If you took the photo from your sweetspot, i have never before seen the right side of the right speaker and the left side of the left speaker in any set-up.
Or maybe this is the result of your experimenting?
Thanks!
My speakers are not positioned properly, indeed. Thanks for notifying.
Could you clarify “toed-in”? I am not a native English speaker. Maybe I should move them a bit of the front because they are “behind” the furniture? That’s what it means?
I’ll step in here…
It’s about the angle of speaker orientation.
Some benefit from pointing directly at the listening position, others not.
Has to do with the speakers’ radiation pattern and room acoustics.
But looking at Stereophile’s measurements, I’d think that their even behavior could be better exploited when positioned more straight for a larger “stage” impression and room “illumination”.
What might really be problematic is the distance to the wall behind them, because they’re rear ported - so experiment here for much improved low frequencies, if at all possible.
Good luck…
To learn about that, do a Google search: ‘speaker placement toe in out’. And/or see the user manual that probably came with the speakers (page 10). You can download it at the KEF website.
Happy experimenting!
… seven, actually …
It’s about the angle of speaker orientation.
Your approach is less environmentally sustainable, even …
It is on the back of paper already printed on that I use as it would be scrap already.
Maybe angle it in a little less…
But I think you can also improve the room acoustics by adding more cushions, maybe a small rug under the table and also pictures or (discreet) sound absorbers on the walls. I would think that the room sounds very bright and you might have a lot of reverberation / feedback.
Enjoy the music!
Your apartment looks beautiful, we work with what we have and we all dream to build a room from the ground up just for listening.
I like no rug on floor, it is easier to clean, but I might have one just for the sound, I like open windows, more light and not a closed space but I have curtains just for the sound (my window is between speakers), I like empty white walls, makes a bigger space, but…
I think I have just the same speaker size (bit of a shorter room) and as long I do not play loud and I’m near field (close to the speakers, 2 meters or so) I’m ok… I guess we can try carpet, pictures, books, absorbers, etc and we can test to see if the compromise it is ok
I totally agree. You must love the room, not only the sound it could possibly create.
In my living room I do have to live with similar compromises.
