I think the last time I posted in this thread was about the Sony HT-A9 system in my home theatre. Some pretty major changes there (the Sony has gone, due to my audiophile leanings and the need/desire to play back SACD and DVD-Audio) to the HT so here we are:
I was using the iFI Zen Stream to bring Roon in to my Denon AVC-X4700H AV integrated (no tuner in Europe, so it’s technically not a receiver). That’s gone back to my bedroom headphone station that it was always intended for, and I’m now using the Primare NP5 Prisma Mk 2 (invisible in the pictures but it’s sat on top of my Toshiba blu-ray player) which is a little belter of a device. It scores over the iFi in that Roon can turn it on and off, and I think it may sound a little better than the iFi – but that conclusion can’t be trusted as it could be down to the rosy glow of a new purchase. For its part, the iFi has a USB output that does DSD and seems to be the perfect match for my Marantz HD-DAC1 and Sennheiser HD-700 (among others) in the bedroom. Both dedicated streamers sound noticeably better – even with 44/16 stuff - than the Denon’s built-in Airplay. The only way to get DSD into the Denon is over HDMI, and I don’t want to have the core computer in the lounge.
Cables need sorting

The rest of the HT: two pairs of Klipsch RP-600M and an RP-600C centre channel (a bit of a beast, but a fab centre). They form an absolutely seamless soundstage – the most integrated I’ve ever heard really. The sub is a Bowers & Wilkins PV1D which seems like a luxury but integrates perfectly. Atmos modules will be added later – almost certainly the Klipsch RP-500SA. The turntable is a vintage Denon DP-30F, which sounds lovely and has auto-lift at the end of the side, The Primare/Denon/Klipsch system could easily be my one and only music system if the need arose – it’s that good in my opinion.
A random mic position for RoomPerfect - again
I changed the Caps on my Quads - astounding improvement
Tom is using his PecanPi Streamer as both a headphone amp and to directly drive the amp for his speakers. Thanks for sharing Tom.
Stunning setup. Tight fit for the mac gear.
Very nice. I like what looks like alphabetized LPs. Any loss in SQ going to this setup vs pre/amp and passives? Thinking of moving to powered speakers too with a one box similar to your Mola Mola. The view is the winner here.
Very nice. No overheating issues?
no everything runs quite cool. all open in the back
thank you. only took me about 35 years to work my way up to it
The never ending journey. At least you are in good company.
Before you get too married to the gel stylus cleaner, Michael Fremer and WallyTools have published some of their findings on cartridges using gel stylus cleaners. They found the gel to accumulate on the cantilever.
Thanks mate.
I think this is the best quality I have ever had in this room. The kiis for detail retrieval and particular the mid range and vocals surpass anything I have heard by some margin.
Harbeths, kef’s and heritage specials have all been tried in here as well as a number of amps. Best passive sound I got was the specials with a Mcintosh ma352 but most detailed was same speakers and the mola mola mono’s but this is a step up again.
The LP12 is going direct (urika built in) to the Kiis gives a soundstage that is ridiculous compared to anything Iv had before with the LP12.
If you can try he Kiis do because I think getting the boundary and tone controls right is the secret.
Don’t think ill be changing these speakers for some time
Interesting. All qualities I value. Based on High End Munich…it seems the future is bright for power speakers…the LS60 maybe the first of some new cheaper contenders coming to challenge Kii and Dutch&Dutch8c. You’re ahead of the curve. btw…your photo viewing the ocean looks similar to the shot Kii uses on their site:)
Is the Mola Mola Tambaqui a leftover from your previous system (since Kii have their own DACs)? Great that the Kii is so adaptable. It seems that Bruno Putzeys has a very good ear, especially for the mid range.
He’s a very smart engineer as well, this is an informative interview, he comes over as quite likeable I think.
FWIW, I used to have a pair of first-generation B&W 800 Diamonds driven by a pair of PS Audio Stellar 300 stereo amps. What with one thing and another, they left, replaced by a pair of Kii 3s. I was too cheap to buy the Kii Controller, which means really that I can’t update the speaker firmware, but a miniDSP SHD connected digitally hooks up the Roon system on a Mac mini in another room over the hardwired network.
My Linn also has a digital connection to the Kii’s - but it’s a bit more cumbersome. First, digitize and record in VinylStudio, give the recording to Roon, play at will. I can also directly play from the Linn; but it’s via an Arch receiver into KEF R3s. Sounds pretty good; but the Kii’s are something else.
Another mini update… finally built the new shelf unit to house the hifi, and I’m currently trying a hegel amplifier while I wait for my new gato to arrive
That’s lovely. Feet up and relax.
