Yeah. After registering my CXNv2 I’ve received an e-mail from Cambridge with the question to fill in a questionaire. And when doing so I would receive a 20% discount coupon on my next Cambridge hifi purchase. The coupon was only valid till the end up last June, so I’ve decided to use it.
I’m curious, how does your system sound with the outboard dac vs the cxn v2 dac? Also the cxa81 has a dac too right? So many dacs! Did you ever do a deep dive to compare the sound of your system using the different dacs?
I’ve been unhappy with my Hegel amp of late. I enjoyed my old H200 which was a nice, clean, neutral and gutsy sounding amp. The H390 really threw the balance too far into warm and soft for my liking. Having tried a better dac and streamer on the end of the hegel, I still felt the Hegel was holding things back. Today I switched for an Audio Analogue Puccini Anniversary. I’m extremely happy so far, it seems like an excellent bit of kit!
DAC is a Chord Hugo TT2, streamer is an Auralic Aries G1, and speakers are Harbeth SHL5+
I’ve just put in the Loxjie today. So I have to do a proper listening test. But the Loxjie itself sounds really good connected to my MacBook Pro and outputting to a set of Presonus Eris 4.5 BT monitor speakers.
When it comes to the DAC’s of the CXA81 and CXNv2, I personally prefer the one from the CXA81. Both sound really good, but to me it seems the Saber DAC in the CXA81 has a bit more punch to it.
But at any rate with the Dali Spektor 2 speakers, all 3 DAC’s sound very similar and all are pleasant to listen to.
I’ve put the Loxjie in the chain to get MQA to work in my setup. Without that, the combination of CXA81 and CXNv2 is perfectly fine.
It is a problem, all new stuff is trying to be streamer ready but the cost of a quality DAC is built into the price of each item. Unless you go for a “just add speakers” solution like the EVO or the Uniti Atom you are stuck with it . I wonder what price a DAC-less CXA81 would be ?

I guess when/if MQA does leave the building, then the Loxjie will find itself back connected to my MacBook Pro. It’s there to remedy the only thing my CXNv2 doesn’t have.
Twin Wolfson DAC’s in my CXNv2. And both my CXA81 and Loxjie D30 have an ESS Saber DAC build in.
The Loxjie would be unneccessary in my setup if the CXNv2 had native MQA support. Then it would be a toss which DAC, CXA81 or CXNv2, sounds “better”. With the current setup the Loxjie’s ESS ES9068AS is the way to go. And it sounds really good as well.
The shortest DAC link in my chain is the connection between my CXA81 and CXC. Since the CXC doesn’t have a DAC, the one in the CXA81 is the only one.
