My system is definitely one that is heard but not seen with value for money and system synergy as priority.
Intel NUC running windows with Fidelizer and linear power supply
fiio R7 with linear PS as roon endpoint streamer
Musician Draco R2R DAC

2X Audiophonic hypex 502s running dual mono.

I think many of us have been where you are with your system, ambition & peace in the household all play their part. We are all potential victims of the marketing men (& our own desires) but at the end of the day if you like what hear & hear what you like in your setup you need go no further.
That said, I expect your ambitions will steer you towards other HiFi goals in the future.
The system looks good, enjoy it.
Have you tried the R7 as a streamer in your stereo - they are one of the best roon end points under 1000.
Thank you
There are so many possibilities for me to explore here
The R7 is great. I could use it as the streamer, DAC and pre amp and connect to a power amp.
I saw the Onkyo’s limitations last night, the volume is from 0 to 40, and at 35 it was only really peaking At 75dB. Although this was with something with a low dynamic range. The deciding factor to upgrade the amplifier has been made.
I will explore options over the coming days/weeks and I’m sure another new arrival will be posted.
I bought a pair of Wharfedale Diamond 5 back in 1992. They are still going strong in my Dads office system.
Since I was blessed with the opportunity to take over my dining room and create the “Audio Room” as I now call it, I have made a few upgrades to my system. It is modest compared to many of the other user posts, but a source of constant enjoyment for me. I primarily stream Qobuz with Roon, occasionally playing my CDs that were autoripped with Roon, and spin some vinyl too. The Arcam setup (SA20/ST60) has been working impressively well with Roon ROCK on a NUCi7 via ethernet.
My Setup:
• Arcam SA20 Class G Amplifier
○ WBC Interconnects
○ Sewell Silverback 12AWG Speaker cables
• Arcam ST60 Streamer
• Roon Rock - NUCi7
○ Ethernet connections throughout (to SA20/ST60/ROCK)
○ Network - UDM-Pro / USW 24 POE-250W / USW-Flex
• Klipsch RP-600M II Mains
• KEF KF92 Dual 9" Force-Cancelling Subwoofer
• Pro-Ject Debut Pro Turntable
○ Schiit Mani2 Phono Preamp
• Panamax MR4300 Power Line Conditioner
• Nest Hub for Roon Lyrics / Album Art / Artist Image
• Corner Damping / Treatments (Courtesy of God’s Blessings)
○ Whitetail Buck
○ Axis Buck
I enjoyed reading the posts and seeing other setups, thanks to all.
I did the same with mine years ago, put them all into photo album like folders
But keep an eye on them - some of mine, especially the older ones, stuck to the plastic and ripped the artwork off
They all went back into the original cases after that fright
Mine are all sandwiched between the artwork & dry, warm conditions so hopefully they will survive. If there’s any deterioration i’ll have to buy 2.5k cases…
2nd attempt.
Nice setup.
I like what you’ve done here.
Thanks, I am a great fan of Chifi (Chinese Hi Fi) as it innovates and democratises hi end audio by making it affordable to the masses.
I get most of my gear from:
Who have a fantastic range and are great to deal with.
I got the hypex class d amps from Audiophonics in France who have great workmanship and are competitively priced.
At this time of year, Roon bringing me great peace and joy in my listening room:
Synology DS1522+ running Audio Station and Roon on NAS.
- Primary 1: Ethernet-connected RoPieee > USB > RME ADI-2 DAC (AKM) > XLR > McIntosh MA8900 > Salk SS 9.5 (in operation in the photos above; electronics gear at right in photo)
- Primary 2: Ethernet-connected Windows 10 Pro > USB > DA2 module of McIntosh MA8900 > Salk SS 9.5
- Secondary: AirPort Express > Denon DRA-395 > Polk Monitor 10B
- Tertiary: Many smaller AirPlay and Bluetooth speaker setups throughout my home
And, no, the plants/decorations, which get moved during the summer months, don’t make a huge difference in the room’s acoustics.
tell me more
We had our carpet removed and completed the first floor with all oak hardwood and refinished the existing floor to match. Since all the furniture was moved or deleted I had the chance to experiment with setting up my 2.1 wherever I wanted within reason. Thus the dining room became the audio room and has stayed that way since, and I am not confined to whatever odd location was free.
My little system, crammed into the living room/home office in my tiny London flat.
Naim Unti Atom
Roon Server running on an M1 Mac Mini
Fyne Audio F500 SP
Meze 99 Classics
Paired HomePod Minis (HomePods Mini?) as a simple alternative to a soundbar for the TV
It’s fine of the moment, although once I escape London I’ll be able to have a little more space to spread out. My next addition is likely to be a CD transport. If I had the space, I’d add a turntable and break out some of my ancient vinyl.
Great idea with the HomePods for TV sound, and a nice system for the small room.
Ha! I have my Onkyo CD going into a WiiM Pro via optical - the reverse of your route. The WiiM goes into a ‘70s Sansui 7500, so it gives me volume control and a very decent DAC en-route.
If you haven’t already, you should post your setup.
The 7500 looks interesting
