I too am a Northerner, born in Hyde in Cheshire (remember the Moors Murders)
Lived as an exile in the south , Romford, and midlands, Burton before emigrating proper to South Africa 30 yrs back

I too had a tough time deciding which route to go for Roon endpoints for secondary rooms in the house. It turns out I end up listening to music more often in the kitchen or gym than in my dedicated listening space.
I ended up with a JBL Authentics 500 and WiiM Ultra combo for each room. The JBL’s retro design fits with the character home vide of the house as well as being a smart speaker with Alexa and Google Assist built in. I hook up the JBL to the WiiM Ultra and take advantage of its room sweeps for the best sound.
The JBLs pack a punch and are a good match with the WiiM.

Gotta love the cuckoo clock in the listening room. 
The cuckoo clock has a linear power supply and is therefore noise free!!!

it is a polite bird and takes my needs into account, only comes out of the box once an hour.
