Describe the issue

I am subscribed to Qobuz duo. My 15 year old daughter is the second person. I have installed the Roon software including server onto my PC. Can my daughter install the Roon software on to her iPad and use it, when I also use Roon to stream to my Yamaha av receiver? In other words, can I use a single Roon subscription for myself and daughter, providedwe use the same core server on my PC?

Describe your network setup

Bt broadband fibre 500mb/s. PC, panasonic mz1500 tv. Yamaha RX-A2050 AV. I stream music files from my PC to receiver, but also stream Qobuz from iPad to Chromecast Ultra into the Yamaha RX-A2050. My daughter just wants to use Roon to view lyrics and play to a Bluetooth speaker in her room, while I am streaming to the home theatre setup.

You can use unlimited control devices with one RoonServer, but you can only connect the RoonServer to one Qobuz account.

@Suedkiez ,

Wow!! I told you that you’ve been extremely helpful Suedkiez to my learning the ropes and never more than today. Thanks to you I just dodged a bullet.

I couldn’t decide last evening on pulling the trigger on changing my Qobuz studio plan to a sublime family subscription along with moving to a Tidal family plan. Planned subscriptions for a year bundle that with Roon and everyone broadens their musical horizon. Well atleast that was the plan.

I was going to write you to question this until I found this:

@alex_woodward please submit a vote for this feature request along with myself. On the surface with its user profiles Roon appears to do exactly what the head of a family would want but it doesn’t. Now I more clearly understand why as much as I love the community and the software it feels isolated.

Thankfully with certainty they’re working on this implementation must be one of Roon’s goals.

Vote here:

(But according to several posts by knowledgeable users, the streaming services may not allow family plans for third parties, so this might be out of Roon Lab’s hands.)

@Suedkiez ,

Yes I read that in a few of the comments that I waded through. I don’t know if that’s true but business decisions often change due to climate and Roon If it’s a matter of discussion/negotiation is in a better position thanks to Harman International I would think.

Not saying that because you’re backed by Harman it’s enough to make anyone especially someone bigger than you change their position. Just saying it probably makes it easier to schedule a meeting.

That’s speculation on my part. One thing I’m certain of is that if we don’t see this feature it won’t be due to a lack of trying on Roon’s part. Said feature would benefit Roon far more than it would a given user or their family I would think financially as well as in the area of future growth.

Sure, things can change. I just mentioned this possibility to manage expectations :slight_smile:

Hello @alex_woodward ,

Thanks for reaching out! As mentioned, this is currently a feature-request, please go ahead and vote on the linked thread. Our product team keeps an eye on that section and that would be the best place to voice your opinion, thanks!

Buy her a Roon subscription for Christmas. “A gift that keeps on giving.”
