Having moved my listening room around I now have my hifi and, the turntables in particular, set up in a much better position.
Now hooked into the rather fabulous Cyrus Phono Signature and compete with Collaro Audio mats I’m very happy. Slowly cleaning and listening to my dad’s record collection.
TT’s are unusual; a fully custom made ARB with ARB arm and a Leak 2001 Transcriptor - a rare deck which uses silicone implants for the suspension. Very effective too, it is almost completely impervious to vibration. You can flick the deck really quite hard when a record is playing and the speaker cones don’t register it at all.
I have a Marantz TT-15S1. I only got into vinyl heavily about 10 years ago – mostly because there was a lot of material from older bands I like that was only released on vinyl (a lot of 12" singles). I still listen to digital 90% of the time, but it’s nice to pull out an album every once in a while.
50/50 Vinyl and Digital most of the time but you can’t (IMO) beat a good vinyl session - something deeply enjoyable in the physicality of music selection
Michell Tecnodec (because I’m too tight for a Gyrodec)
Agree entirely. Love kicking back to a real, actual record. Don’t get me wrong, streaming has enormous benefits and conveniences however a ‘real’ listening session is sometimes just what the doctor ordered.
I have a Rega Planar 3 with a AT440MLa cartridge, but I rarely play vinyls as I use them mainly for recording to tape.
I play only vinyls that haven’t bought as CDs, the ones that don’t exist as CDs or -more often- when the CDs are made with poor mastering. The latter happens less often lately, fortunately.
I’m almost embarrassed to say this but I can’t figure out how to use the 45rpm adapter on my new Majik LP12. It’s such a silly basic problem there aren’t even any YouTube videos or Google images that show you how. And there’s no user manual.
I can slide it over the top of the motor bit but it stops at the rubber washer ring at the top. Does it click in if you keep pushing it down? I don’t want to push too hard in case I break something.
People on this forum have generally been really nice, so while this isn’t strictly a Roon question if someone can lend me a hand that would be great!
You have to push down on the adapter really hard Chris, harder than you think you should? The top of the 45 adapter should be flush with the motor pulley. And getting the damn thing off is as much a PIA too
You’re right in that the instructions say that, but I think I might have had a previous generation adapter with my old Valhalla that required to fit flush, otherwise the belt would ride too high. But obviously, ignore me on this point.
But as for Lingo vs Radikal? Forget it! Radikal trounces Lingo 4. I went into my dealer to buy Kore/Lingo 4, and left with Keel/Radikal. Unfortunately for my wallet!
I did give my criteria for the selection, being cheap. Me and the Lingo. £300 Vs £3000
Anyway if stable speed was the real criteria should buy an sp10.
Thanks to both @Martin_Kelly and @ged_hickman1 – I’ll give it a go! I’ve only had it a couple of months so I’m being very delicate with it, guess I’ll have to push a bit a harder! But not so hard that it goes flush–cripes!
I’ve just had a rummage through the box and can’t find the second drive belt the manual mentions, so I’ll have to use the adapter sparingly before I get hold of a power supply solution. . .or get hold of another drive belt.
I think - and it really is just a faint memory, that the second belt thing is about stretching the belt. If you aren’t running 45 lots you should be fine.
