Windows Roon Server not starting after update to build 1324 [Solution - Reinstall Roon from https://roon.app/en/downloads]

I’m having the same problem here, still not solved yet. Roon core specs way more than required. If I reinstall the app, I will probably lose all the playlists and I don’t want to do that. I’m just wondering how much time will we be waiting here for a solution, as roon techical specialists don’t seem to “jump in” to try and help us. One useful feature would be the possibility to restore the previous version, maybe someone from roon would consider this important. Also, the updates need to be done during working hours and not on fridays, as there won’t be any help availible from roon team for more than 48 hours, in case of malfunction, in the most important period of the week for all roon users, as it’s weekend.

I am having the same problem. Updated ROON an hour ago and now the Roon core application will not launch. When I double click the exe file in the root folder where it’s installed nothing happens. No error or anything.

Just updated and have been hit with the same issue. Doh!

Thank you very much, you saved my evening, my weekend and most important my playlists!!!

Hi, Roon says my Laptop core needs updating to 2.0. It downloads and installs and when I click relaunch it closes and doesn’t relaunch. Then I can no longer open Roon and have to reinstall and then the same process happens again. Any ideas please? Thanks.

Similar here, hope there is a solution!

@Mark_Cee, if you are experiencing a similar issue, please create your own separate support request so this can be addressed.

Hi Nathan,

I had the exact same issue.
I reinstalled Roon and it fixed the issue, don’t update the application as it will stop working!

Hopefully this fixes your issue as it did mine.

Best regards,
Lukas

Hi Mark,

I had the same issue. I solved it by reinstalling the application on my PC Core. Make sure not to update again after reinstall.

Twinning! Love when this happens!

Hi Lucas,

Thanks. So you uninstall Roon and installed it again? I guess you need to load the DB after? Never had to uninstall Roon Core, so I feel a bit uneasy about doing it and loosing any info.

Same problem here. The update has hung roon so it will not start. I have had to go to the roon website and download the installer and reboot several times before I realised that the only way to get roon to start is NOT to install the update when you see the message. It didn’t seem to be necessary to retore the roon db but I don’t know what the db status is or if all my re-booting has corrupted it to be honest. The whole failed update process has also destroyed my Qobuz queue as “unavailable” so there seems to be some broken dependency with the Qobuz login as well. Trying a backup now as it is the only way I know of checking that I haven’t corrupted my db. Quite a mess.

Description of Issue

Before the latest update, EVERYTHING was working fine, at the Roon client in Windows 10 box.

I was informed Update is available. No problem. I’ve done successful updates in this same Windows 10 box for years and years.

No problem, i’ll update.

After the update, doing the usual “Click here to relaunch”, Roon.exe does NOT start.

In the Windows Task Manager, i see the Roon.exe showing up, and after about a second, it disappears.

NEVER have i seen this symptom from all my updating of Roon.

So, i decided, maybe the latest install corrupted something. Ok. Let me go over to Roon site and download the supposedly the latest “RoonInstaller64.exe” installer. Downloaded it. After install, now the Roon.exe is launched, and i can see it.

Then immediately i’m greeted with the “Update available”. Huh?

I see that the “RoonInstaller64.exe” is Roon version 2.0 build 1311, and NOT the latest.

So, i let Roon go through the install.

And after “Click here to relaunch”, i’m ONCE AGAIN, hit with symptom of Roon.exe does NOT start.

Is there a known issue with latest Roon version for desktop?

Thanks.

Am i better of doing Roon desktop uninstall first, then run the downloaded “RoonInstaller64.exe” first?

This will install Roon desktop version 2.0, build 1311 version.

Then Roon.exe opens, and will prompt me that i need to upgrade desktop version.

And i accept.

Hopefully after this update, Roon.exe will start and open properly?

I’m at a loss here.

Just tried on different PC, laptop that was running Roon desktop version build 1311, and soon as it opened, i was prompted to update.

After update, restart, Roon.exe DOES NOT OPEN.

What is going on ?

Yeah, I’m experiencing the same symptoms here. Roon can’t start. I uninstalled and install again but this time, I don’t update. Everything is okay. Just don’t update to break it
