I see my devices on Roon server but not on Roon remote

Hi,

I’m running the last version of Roon 1.2 on a Windows 10 pro computer. and I have like devices an Auralic Aries (firmeware 3.3)

From computer all working fine more or less all the time, I can see and select the Auralic
But on my 2 Roon remote ,(I have Nexus 9 & Nexus 6) Impossible to see the Auralic, also after restart of the Auralic or the computer.
Only solution, start the music from the computer and only after I can see appear the Auralic on both Nexus and be able to control my music from Android devices

And it’s the same each day after my Roon server computer come out from automatic sleeping mode.

Version of Roon : 1.2
Auralic Aries firmware : 3.3
Operating system where Roon is installed : windows 10 pro
Basic informations : CPU i3-2120, 8 RAM, 128GbSSD + LSI MegaRAIS SAS9240-8i with 6 HDD in RAID 5 MB :ASRock H67M-ITX
Server is also running : Plex, LMS, Jriver, google music manager, , Kaspersky Small Office 4, Lights-out, …
All the Music is on local RAID dirive
On Roon, I havn’t enable Squeezbox support

Nerwork:
router : netgear WNDR4500 with ~14 DHCP address (but with Address Reservation)
Switch : netgear GS108V3
I have a mix between wired and wireless equipment, but Roon server and Auralic is all on wired mode.

Many thanks for your help, and let me know if you need more informations

I seem to remember this program causing issues for another user. Try setting your machine to NOT go to sleep and see what happens.

Hi Daniel,

It was me also using Lights-Out, on a computer running WHS2011, and I seen than Roon was not supporting WHS2011, so I installed Windows 10.

But problem before was not the same… before Roon Server also was losing the Aries.
Now server always see the Aries also coming out from the sleep, just my Android remote don’t see the Aries .

And when I start a song on server, remote start to see the Aries.

No need to restart it like before, so I think it’s a tottal different problem.
But yes, if computer don’t go in sleep mode, no problem with remote after wake-up

Some more idea about the reason
Thanks
David

Can you give me a few more details about this? You’re running your Roon Core on a Windows 10 device, with an Android remote, and the list of zones is different on the Android device?

Which outputs appear in the list, and which don’t?

Hi Mike,

I have only one zone, and one devices connected (I don’t use my different squeezebox with Roon)

So on windows 10 where Roon server is installed, I see the Aries and the different sound output from the computer.
And on my Nexus 9 and 6 when problem is present, I see no output selectable, only the possibility to add an HQplayer

Just so I understand and don’t make assumptions.

  1. You have a windows 10 machine; do you have RoonServer AND Roon installed as a front end or just Roon acting as the Core?.
  2. The machine goes to sleep at night. The nexus can’t see the Aries, but if you start Roon, the Roon install sees the Aries. If you start a song, the Nexus then sees the Aries. Is it enough to start Roon on the Windows 10 machine and verify that the ARies is seen by opening audio setup or do you have to start a song before the Nexus can see the Aries?
  3. The Aries is connected to which DAC and how is it connected. I’m guessing USB.

I might be wrong and I’m sure @mike will correct me. When your computer is going to sleep the connection from Roon to the DAC is ended and will stay in that state until it is positively made active again, like by starting a song. Roon, I don’t believe, will broadcast a network endpoint that does not have a DAC attached ( or in your case the connection to the DAC is not alive). As soon as you attempt connecting to the Dac from RoonServer, like by starting a song, it wakes the connection up and begins serving it to all the remotes.

This sounds like you’re looking in Settings. If the zone is available on your Core, you should be able to see it from the zone picker.

To switch zones on desktop and tablet, click in the footer, next to volume:

On phone, switch by clicking below the volume popup:

You may also want to confirm you’re not running as a private zone.

Dear All, thanks for your help and sorry for my bad english,
to give you all more clear, please find the different print screen I did.

Here you have what I see on my nexus 9 the morning after server restarted

Here you have what I see on windows 10 where roon (core + control + output) are intalled
https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=611FCFF374490697!35940&authkey=!AHX6tpqIP62aRfg&v=3&ithint=photo%2CPNG

And finally, what I have on nexus 9 when I start playing the 1st song on windows 10

And the Aries is connected by AES/EBU to a Trinnov making DAC and room correction.
And when I use in the moring the Trinnov with a Squeeztbox touch in in SPDIF, no problem at all.

About me it’s really an isue with roon on my android devices, who stop to work with roon server who don’t’ reatart automaticly the link after server restart

Hello @David_Ghidoni,

Try to completely disable firewall on the machine were RoonServer is running?
Does RoonServer and Aries connected to the same network device (switch/router) ?

Thanks

Hello @vova,

Thanks for the answer and sorry for the delay, I was traveling.
I will check this night regarding the the point one (firewall) and let you know tomorrow.
regarding 2nd point,
the machine where Roonserver is running is connected directly to the router: netgear WNDR4500
And the Auralic is connected first to the switch netgear GS108V3 which is connected to the router.

After, what I noticed more regarding my problem, it’s no need to start a song on computer to be able to see the auralic on android remote, just moving the mouse of the computer make visible the Auralic in the tablet.
And take the control of the computer by remote desktop make the same effect…

I hope those information will help you
Best regards

Are you sure that your computer isn’t going to sleep state during idle ? I encourage you to check those OS settings.

no, I’m sure, because during same time, no problem to heard and control my music from JRiver or LMS or with lightning DS. and all those music server are on same computer that Roon

But only Roon renote have problems

Dear @vova,
I did the trials to completely disable firewall /windows + from Kaspersky) on the machine were RoonServer is running.
And exactly same problem in the morning.

I must to try now without switch between server and Auralic, right ?

Yes, please try to connect Auralic and the machine with Roon Core directly to your router and see if such setup changes anything. (make sure that firewalls are disabled during the test).

Cheers

@vova unfortunately, no change connecting directly the Auralic to the router and no firewall active.
I also tried to send magic key (WOL) to the computer to see if helping, but nothing…
Only moving the mouse physicly on computer make see the Auralix to roon on android devices.

the computer where roon server is installed has a touch screen, do you think that’s can have an influence ?
because I also tried to fully reinstall Windows 10, but problem persist

Other important point, when I put the computer in sleep mode for short time, no problem after wake-up, only if it remain for long time (no idea after how much problem start)

some more suggestions

No body have no idea ?

Hello @David_Ghidoni,

Apologies for slow response here, I don’t think that touchscreen has any affect on this issue. But I do think that this issue is related to you power management settings.
Can you take a screenshots of the power management settings and paste them here. Can you also check if anything will change when Lights-out isn’t working?

Thanks

please find below the different print screen
Many thanks

Hi @David_Ghidoni ---- Thank you for your feedback! While I don’t speak French, making it hard to understand these settings, I would recommend trying the computers default power managements settings, in addition to disabling or uninstalling “lights out”.

HI Eric,

There is some cross talk because this issue was kind of discussed in another thread. See:
